Food Pantry - Thank you to those who have donated to the pantry so far this year. We appreciate your help and we could use the following items - string cheese, yogurt, and fruit cups.

DATE CHANGE! New Families – Welcome to Ridgeline! We are so excited to have you join the Ridgeline community. We know that these first few weeks, as you learn about our community, can be overwhelming. Please do not hesitate to contact anyone in the office if you have questions! And feel free to ask the same question more than once. We will be offering a New Family “Ridgeline 101” Meeting on Wednesday, September 12, 6-7:30pm. This is the perfect opportunity to learn all the ins and outs of being a Ridgeline parent and have your questions answered. Limited childcare is available for toilet-trained children. Sign up here:  http://bit.ly/2MpihYB

Family T-shirt/Sweatshirt Orders - Order forms will be available at the picnic tonight and sent home with kids tomorrow. This year’s color is a lovely dark maroon with silver logo. We have short sleeve and long sleeve t-shirts, zip up and pullover hoodies! Order forms with payments will be due Friday, September 21. Sample sizes are available at the picnic tonight.

When can I visit my child's classroom?

The short answer is: October 17th.

The longer answer is that Montessori classrooms undergo an initial period of "normalization," the time it takes for the classroom to really begin humming.  Maria Montessori remarked that the defining characteristic of a normalized Montessori classroom is joy! We want to give this characteristic time to develop.  For most classrooms, the process takes about six weeks (although I'm seeing quite a bit of joy already)! During this time, children are learning the rhythms of the classroom, how to function as a community, and how to flow as individuals within the group.  It's an important time, and Ridgeline protects the time by limiting observations and visits. Please trust the process! Trust that your child will benefit from the independent time, and trust the wonderful, caring adults in Ridgeline's classrooms.

Come mid-October, you can contact your child's classroom teacher to set up a time to volunteer or just visit for a joyful classroom experience!

What about Nuts? - If there is a nut allergy in your child’s class the teacher will alert families and let them know the protocol for that room.

Jog-a-thon Volunteers Needed - 50 + volunteers needed! Click on the links and sign up today.

Small Hands Coordinator Small Hands is a catalog presented by Montessori Services with educational toys for young children. We will be sending home catalogs and order forms to kinder and lower-el families in early October and we are looking for a coordinator. The coordinator prepares the catalogs, tallies the orders, places the orders, and prepares orders once they come in. Contact Cynthia at cynthia.friedman@ridgeline.org to volunteer.

Printer Cartridge Volunteer Needed - Middle School is looking for a volunteer that will pack up old printer cartridges and mail them off for recycling. Contact India at india.john@ridgeline.org

Substitute List – Ridgeline currently has openings on its substitute list. If you are interested, or know someone who is interested in getting on our sub list, please send a resume and three reference with contact information to careers@ridgeline.org. Substitutes take on the role of the classroom assistant and pay is $10.75 per hour. If you have questions about subbing, contact Cynthia in the office.

Religious Holidays - Hi Families!  We are working to ensure that schoolwide and classroom events at Ridgeline don't interfere with our families' religious holidays.  Please let us know if your family observes or celebrates any religious holidays that fall within the space of the school-year calendar.  For planning purposes, it would also help to know if there are evening events that may affect your child's participation in the following day's activities.  Please send information to office@ridgeline.org

CONTINUING NEWS -

Road Construction ALERT! -  The W. Amazon Drive (Hilyard to Fox Hollow) road re-building project is in full swing! Currently Ridgeline is accessible only from the south on W. Amazon. Traffic approaching from the north has two options:

  1. Take E. Amazon to Fox Hollow. Turn right onto Fox Hollow and continue straight thru the intersection. Take Fox Hollow to the first left which is 43rd Ave. Turn left. This will take you back to W. Amazon beyond the construction zone and you can turn right and continue on to school. (note that the street sign for 43rd at Fox Hollow is placed back from the corner and not easy to see before you make the turn). If you miss the turn, take 44th. It will also get you back to W. Amazon.

  2. Take E. Amazon and continue to Snell. Turn right on Snell and then right onto W. Amazon. You will now be approaching Ridgeline from the south.

Note to all Parents - Please leave early and allow extra time to drive to and from Ridgeline while the road construction is going on. The project is not scheduled to be completed until late October, and we foresee access changing as the construction progresses. Practise patience and allow drivers coming from both the north and the south to access the Ridgeline drive thru lane. For the latest updates check the Eugene Public Works twitter feed at - https://twitter.com/EugenePW

Park and Stride - Access to The Annex parking lot is limited at this time. The sidewalk along W. Amazon is closed and much of the right hand side travel lane is blocked, making it not ideal for students to walk. You might consider parking on Larch St. and having your kids walk there to meet you. Larch is the first street to the south of Ridgeline next to Emerald Valley Assisted Living. Please do not park in their parking lot.

Absence Notification - If your child must miss school please contact the office and let us know by 8:30 a.m. You may either call us at 541-681-9662 or email attendance@ridgeline.org. Remember to give us a reason for the absence so we can code it correctly. (ie. sick, parent request, medical appointment, injury, bereavement, etc.) If you do not contact us your child will be marked “ABS” and you will receive an attendance phone call and email and the absence will not be excused.

Planned Absence – This is a reminder to avoid planned absences whenever humanly possible. Unless you can guarantee that your child will not get sick this year, it is likely that the planned absence will accumulate with regular sick days and may lead to chronic absenteeism. We sincerely want all of our kiddos to benefit from all the learning opportunities that regular attendance brings. Some life situations are simply unavoidable...  If you must take a planned absence, please plan well in advance. Fill out the planned absence request form for review and approval by Principal Sharon. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScrgQ3jwfs93k36HVeZcp87cU6EfV4EWRIYlydJsuU1F3YBQg/viewform

G.A.Y.L.E.🌈 - Ridgeline's Gender and Attraction Youth League for Equity!

GAYLE meets in Room 6 (behind the supply room) on Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. Our first meeting will be September 26th!

The goal of this space is to allow our students to educate, activate, and celebrate themselves and their peers while interacting with topics surrounding gender and attraction.

All students who are at least 11 years of age and are interested in empowerment around the two aforementioned issues are welcome to join.

Middle School Assistant Maizzy Phayt will continue to facilitate the meetings. Permission slips are available by request at the office, or from Maizzy or her whiteboard in Room 12, and will be required for participation. Permission slips must be returned to the office or given to Maizzy before a student attends a meeting.

Ridgeline Family Contacts  – Authorization to include your family in the Ridgeline Family Contacts (formally the student directory) was given in the winter, when families returned the re-enrollment form. We will use the information we have as of Friday, September 7, 2018 for the school directory. All updates MUST be in by this date.

Household Income Survey Form – In the back to school packet you will find the Household Income Survey Form. While Ridgeline does not offer free & reduced lunch, families who qualify may receive benefits throughout the Eugene/Springfield area. Often program discounts are available through Kidsports, the Science Factory, etc. All Ridgeline Families are expected to return the Household Income Survey by September 7. This year the survey is not valid unless we receive it back from ALL families. If your family does not qualify, please write your name, put a line through the form and return it to the office. Last year 34% of Ridgeline families qualified (according to the surveys received). All survey information is confidential. Questions regarding the survey should be directed to the office.

Weekly eNews is usually sent out on Thursdays.
