Kindergarten Back to School Packets - The back to school packets for all kindergarteners will be given directly to you at your meeting next week with Diana. This includes packets for kinder families who have older siblings. 


Kindergarten Staggered Start and Orientation Meetings- For the first two days of school (Wednesday 9/4 and Thursday 9/5), kindergarten students attend school for only half the day, either during the morning (8:30-11:25) or the afternoon (12:10-3:05). Friday is regular 8:30 start time and early dismissal at 1:05 with all kindergartners attending. Families will find out which session their child has been assigned when they meet with Diana the week before school begins. Diana and Kristin hope to meet with each family individually in the kindergarten classroom for twenty minutes. If you have not yet scheduled this meeting, call the office at 541-681-9662. We want to give your family, and especially your child, a warm welcome and support for a smooth transition to Ridgeline. Well begun is half done!


Monthly Donor Challenge Grant - A generous Ridgeline supporter has approached us with an exciting challenge grant.  For every new or increased Monthly Donor that signs up between now and the end of September, this supporter will donate $50 to Ridgeline after the third monthly installment is made!  If we receive at least 25 new or increased monthly donors, this supporter will donate an additional $250! That means if 25 people participate Ridgeline will receive $1,500!  


Monthly donations help spread out your contribution over the year, help our school's staff with budgeting and planning, and help us be good stewards of our fundraising volunteers’ time and energy.  It's a WIN-WIN-WIN!

Message from Fundraising Chair - Hello, for those of you who I have not yet met, I'm Ann Carney Nelson. My daughter Elizabeth is in Emily's class.  I'm excited to serve as Fundraising Committee Chair again this year. I am grateful to have each of you as part of the Fundraising Team here at Ridgeline!  While our committee takes the lead to help plan and organize our annual fundraising efforts, at the end of the day, it is our collective responsibility to work together to reach our goal.  We will be sharing more information in the coming weeks about ways to help and participate in our fundraising activities. If at any point you have any questions or ideas to share, please contact us at giving@ridgeline.org.


August Volunteer Needs - Volunteering the week before school starts is a great way to jumpstart your 40 hours! 


Supply Closet Organizer - Do you enjoy pens, folders, and all those fun office supplies? We have a huge closet/room that needs your attention and care. If you have time to help organize the supply closet contact Jen to volunteer. 


Love Books? - Are you passionate about books? Do you love to organize? We are looking for a volunteer to work on our library collection. Last year Michelle Lodwig and Steph Ponto did the lion’s share of the work to sort our collection and create a pleasing environment in our library space. This year we are looking for passionate individuals to continue the process to incorporate additional books into the library and cull the collection (removing out of date reference materials). If this is a project that interests you contact Cynthia for more information and to volunteer.


Laminating Volunteer - We need a volunteer to laminate math material sheets, then cut them out. Upper-el would really like to use these materials so the sooner the better. Contact Jen to volunteer. 


Grounds Work Help Needed - Please help us prepare the outdoor environment for our students and the start of a new school year!  We need help weeding, pruning, weed whacking, mowing, pressure washing and much more.


A list of outdoor work is placed on the main door of the building so you can easily stop by at your convenience to volunteer a few hours of your time (or the entire family’s time) over the next few weeks.  Please bring your own tools or contact the office at 541-681-9662 for additional information. Fall Volunteer Needs - 

Track it Forward - Ridgeline will continue to utilize Track it Forward for volunteer sign ups and to log your volunteers hours. If you are new to Ridgeline, or have not yet created an account, please do so! Last year we had a lot of folks forget to log their hours. Volunteer hour reporting is important for us to show support for Ridgeline when applying for grants and for reporting to our sponsoring district.

School Greeters - We are in need of seasoned parents to assist with drop off and pick up the first week of school. Volunteers will assist with traffic flow, directing cars through the pick up circle and reminding folks that the driveway is closed until 3:05 p.m. for pick up. In the morning they will assist with traffic flow, remind drivers to pull forward and to remain in their vehicle. Volunteers will assist new students finding their class. Sign up here

 

Jog-a-thon is Friday, September 27! - Yes, that's right, this year's jog-a-thon is in a few weeks!  We need lots and lots of volunteers to make this a successful event, so put the morning of Friday, September 27, on the calendar.  If you're interested in volunteering, sign up to volunteer the day of the jog-a-thon here. Parents/Guardians! - Ridgeline’s Site Council is looking for TWO parents/guardians to represent the parent body in important school decisions. (Don’t worry, you won’t be on your own, we’ve got two other parents on Site Council to guide you the first year!).  This is a great opportunity to get involved and learn more about what makes Ridgeline tick! Many Ridgeline groups look to Site Council during planning and decision making in order to have feedback from all stakeholder groups; teachers, classified staff, administration, parents/guardians, students and the board.  It is crucial we have representation from each group in order to make informed and thoughtful decisions. 


Site Council is a fun group of people talking about what we can do to make our school even more awesome, while making sure we take everyone into account.


Parent reps are asked to serve a 3-year term and attend RCO meetings in addition to Site Council meetings. If you are interested in serving on our Site Council, please join our next meeting on  September 23, 6-7:30 p.m in the school library. But you don’t have to wait until then… you can also talk to Cynthia in the front office or email sitecoucil@ridgeline.org with any questions.  You can read more about the position here and download an application here. Not quite ready to make the commitment of parent rep but want to be a part of this fantastic group?  Come be our minute taker! Taking minutes is a great way to familiarize yourself with what is going on here at Ridgeline and to get volunteer hours.  Contact Cynthia to volunteer.

 

Food Pantry – Ridgeline does not provide a school lunch program at this time. Through generous donations to the food pantry (from Ridgeline families and staff members) we are able to ensure that students in need have food for snack and/or lunch. Teachers and assistants access the pantry as they perceive a need. Donations for the food pantry will be accepted starting Tuesday, September 3. Great items to bring include string cheese, yogurt, single serving baby carrot packs, fruits such as apples and oranges, granola bars, and any single serve main course protein items. Thank you so much for your donation. Last year the food pantry was in high use. 

 

Back to School Picnic – Join us on Thursday, September 5, at 5:30pm, on the lawn by the playground, for the back to school picnic. Bring a blanket and a picnic dinner for your family. Meet new friends and see old friends. 


New Families – Welcome to Ridgeline! We are so excited to have you join the Ridgeline community. We know that these first few weeks, as you learn about our community, can be overwhelming. Please do not hesitate to contact anyone in the office if you have questions! And feel free to ask the same question more than once. We will be offering a New Family “Ridgeline 101” Meeting on Tuesday, September 10, 6-7:30pm. This is the perfect opportunity to learn all the ins and outs of being a Ridgeline parent and have your questions answered. Limited childcare is available for toilet-trained children. Sign up here.


Ridgeline T- Shirts for Every Student!  Be on the lookout for two different order forms coming home.  One is for your student’s t-shirt, and one is optional for extra t-shirts and sweatshirts!  Each Ridgeline student will receive a t-shirt.  There is a $10 suggested donation for those who are able and families qualifying for free and reduced lunch will receive a free t-shirt. Fridays are Spirit Days, so we want all students to be able to participate and show their Ridgeline Spirit!


Sample sizes of t-shirts and sweatshirts will be available at the Back to School Picnic on September 5, so be sure to come find your perfect fit.  We will not stock t-shirts or sweatshirts, so please make sure you order the correct size as we will not be able to make exchanges for incorrect sizing.  Questions?  Feel free to contact Michelle at michelle.lodwig@ridgeline.org 


Pre-Arrange Play Dates/Pick Up – We know that students are excited to see their friends after the long summer break! Please remember to plan play dates in advance and not during the school day. Honoring the classroom community with as few interruptions as possible is part of the Montessori educational experience, we value for our students and staff. If your child will be going home with someone other than you, please send a note for the teacher. We will not release your child to another family without your permission. If you forget to send a note, you may call the office at 541-681-9662.


No Animals on Campus – Please remember that the Ridgeline school grounds are an animal-free zone. In order to ensure the safety of all students we ask that you leave your dogs at home when picking up and dropping off your children. 


Need Medication at School? – Students requiring medication are requested to take all doses at home if possible. If medication must be given during school hours or while students are on school sponsored field trips, a medication distribution form must be completed and signed by the parent. Students are not to have medications elsewhere on the school grounds without prior written approval including a medication distribution form.  If you have a student who regularly has his/her braces tightened or is prone to headaches, you may fill out the form and bring in an original container of Tylenol or Ibuprofen that may be given on an as needed basis. Contact the office if you have additional questions.


COMMUNITY NEWS - 

LTD Student Transit Pass - Beginning September 1, 2019, all students in the Bethel, 4J, Springfield, and Lane school districts can ride an LTD bus to school for free by simply showing the driver their school identification card or telling the driver that they are a student – K-12. Parents or guardians of students in kindergarten through 12th grade can ride an LTD bus with their student during the initial rollout for free, as well. Free student transit fares are made available through a grant  to LTD from the state of Oregon’s Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund (STIF). Additional information about the student transit pass will be available directly from schools in late September.
