MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill may be considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:

The principal must believe in and support the mission, vision and core values of Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School.

Four to five years of successful teaching in a school (preferably Montessori), plus evidence of successful administrative-level school leadership

Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or a closely related field

Montessori credential, preferred

Oregon TSPC Administrative License authorizing service as a school principal

Grades: K-8
Salary range: $68,500 to $75,000 (DOE) plus benefits
Supervisor: Executive Director
Closing date: April 29, 2019 (but open until filled)
Employment begins: July 1, 2019

About the Position

The principal is the educational/instructional leader of an established, K-8 public Montessori school and is responsible for establishing an instructional vision and a focused plan for improving student achievement; monitoring and supervising instruction; supporting teachers in improving their instructional practice; creating a community of continuous, holistic learning for all staff and students; and fostering a culture of high expectations for all students. In addition, the principal is charged with building strong partnerships with families and community; creating a safe, supportive school climate; and effectively managing operational, technical, and staff issues to promote instructional progress. The Principal is a member of Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School’s administrative team and works closely with the Executive Director to fulfill the school’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values.

The principal works collaboratively under the general supervision of the executive director. The principal supervises instructional staff.

About the School

Ridgeline Montessori was the first public Montessori school in Oregon and has successfully served public K-8 students in Eugene, Oregon since September, 2000. Ridgeline moved into its own building in August 2012, where the school provides an academically rigorous Montessori education to children from all walks of life. Every day students balance their freedom to explore and think for themselves with their responsibility to work and learn within a community. During a recent annual review by sponsoring district, Eugene SD 4J, it was noted that the School has strong reading, math and science proficiency rates on state assessments. Also, mentioned was high instructional engagement and success with a diversity of students. Niche rates Ridgeline as the #7 charter middle school and #10 charter elementary school in Oregon. All teachers are Montessori trained.

About the Community

Eugene, Oregon is a diverse and progressive metropolitan area with a population of 250,000. It is located at the southern end of the scenic Willamette River Valley, along the I-5 corridor. It is home to the University of Oregon and dubbed TrackTown USA. Eugene is filled with world-class running, hiking and biking trails and is a hotbed for local industry—from craft breweries to alternative transportation. It is a major destination for foodies, cyclists and counter-culture history buffs. The city is filled with locally-owned stores, galleries, family farms and artisan markets, as well as being home to everything from major manufacturers to tech startups. Eugene is known as “A Great City for the Arts and Outdoors.”
Eugene offers a great art scene, exceptionally fine restaurants, boisterous festivals, miles of riverside paths and lovely parks. Its location at the confluence of the Willamette and McKenzie Rivers, just west of the Cascades, means there are plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities – especially around the McKenzie River region, the Three Sisters Wilderness and Willamette Pass. The Oregon coast, just 60 miles west, is easily accessible via pretty Hwy 126.
