Sharon's Weekly 3-18-16

Hello, Room 7 families!

Room 7 has just begun a unit on weather. Today we talked about tornadoes and hurricanes, cyclones and typhoons. Many of the students have begun personal research to explore some weather phenomenon that interests them. I have heard some AMAZING research questions.

We had a good discussion today about what it looks like to be "done" with our work, and how to pursue things that we are passionate about. In Montessori philosophy, students are working toward mastery rather than completion. This means that the quantity of work comes second to quality and the wise use of time. In one sense, then, there is no "done" -- open time is an opportunity to research something further!

When we come back from Spring Break, 4th and 5th year students will begin to explore what topics they would like to share at Project Fair. 6th year students should be finishing up a complete draft of their Big Project (with intro and conclusion) this week. We will start to fine-tune the editing process at the end of March.

Human Growth and Development lessons for 4th, 5th and 6th graders are scheduled for Tuesday, 4/19. Please mark your calendars for PARENT PREVIEW NIGHT on Monday, April 11th at 5:30 pm. I hope you can all attend to hear the information we will be sharing with students about where babies come from. :)

Please note that Ridgeline DOES have school this Friday, March 18. This is different from 4j!
