Sharon's Class Weekly Update 1-4-18

posted Jan 4, 2018, 12:15 PM by Cynthia Friedman
Hello, Room 9 families!

Welcome back! I have heard great reports about the many adventures students had on the break. We will be back into the swing of things in no time. This week, we are finishing a unit on metric measurements, and we just began a brief study of money and the stock market.

Thursday, Jan 4th is a FED-EX DAY. This event is an idea Daniel Pink shares in his book, DriveIn 22 hours, students complete a short academic research project. They raced the clock to present a completed project for tomorrow at 1pm. This project can be as elaborate as a student finds appropriate. On previous Fed-Ex days, students have researched black holes, knitted scarves, written and performed plays, or drawn amazing pictures. Students will create mini-trifold boards to display their research.

We are looking for chaperones (not drivers! just grown-up people!) for TWO upcoming field trips:
     * Wed, Jan 31, 9am-2pm : Museum of Natural and Cultural History in Eugene, for a class on the water cycle.
     * Thursday, Feb 8, 9am-2pm : Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, for a tour and a studio project.
If you can chaperone for either (or both!) of these events, please email me. Permission slips will be coming out soon.

January 12th is GRANDPARENTS' DAY at Ridgeline. We are excited to welcome grandpersons in the classroom.

In the evening of January 12th, Ridgeline will have our annual amazing TALENT SHOW! Please plan to attend at 6pm to cheer on our fantastically talented students.

There is no school on JANUARY 15 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. There is no school on JANUARY 29 for grading.

We are so glad to be back!
