Academics
This week students have started receiving lessons in math. In some groups the focus is on understanding place value, and understanding how the digits in one number compare to each other. Other students are working on order of operations and using PEMDAS (operations are completed in the order of: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, and finally, Addition and Subtraction). We also have students beginning the year with a review of long division.

The class has also started practicing spelling words this week. In the beginning of the week students are creating their spelling lists, and as the week goes on they are asked to choose four activities that will help reinforce the correct spellings of those words.

On Thursday we acknowledged Banned Book Week. We looked at a few books that have been banned and discussed the reasons each of those books were challenged. We also talked about how to set guidelines for appropriate reading material in the classroom, and how that might be different from banning books.

All School Meeting
Ridgeline’s Board of Directors is hosting an All School Meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from6:30 to 7:30 in the gym. It will be a chance to learn about Montessori education and to hear about the important work of the Capital Campaign. There will also be a potluck cookie bar, so please feel free to bring something to share.

Volunteers Wanted
We are still looking for a few parents interested in helping with a session of Creative Expressions. This is a time during the school day on Fridays which we will be setting aside for students to take part in small group electives. If you have time on Friday from 12:15 until 1:15 to share your talent, please e-mail me at
sarah.walden@ridgeline.org

Thank you for everything,
Sarah, Adriene, and Room 7
