Academics
This week students are wrapping up their final district assessments in reading and math. These tests are done in the fall, winter, and spring to help track progress.

Students are peer editing and revising essays on westward expansion. We’ve been doing a lot of work on what a paragraph looks like, and how to put paragraphs together to create a cohesive essay. This week it’s all finalizing in a grammatically correct essay that follows all the guidelines we’ve discussed.

We continued learning about the Oregon Trail this week. On Tuesday the class had a lesson on the sorts of hardships that people faced while trying to travel the 2,000 miles from Missouri out to Oregon. Thank you so much to Maggie Springer for coming in and talking to the class about that.

The class is also busy putting together movie ideas set in Australia. This week we’ve been "scoping around" for good locations in which to set our movies.

Really Rosie
Don’t forget about the upper el musical coming up on Wednesday, June 6. I believe that Rachael, our director, still has volunteer opportunities available for those who are looking to help out. Feel free to contact her at
carnes.rachael@gmail.com if you have an area of expertise that might come in handy.

End of the Year Trip
The end of the year is upon us, as is our end of the year camping trip to Eagle Creek. We will be leaving next Wednesday and returning on Friday. I would love to start collecting gear and food that doesn’t need to be refrigerated. If you have gear or food that you have agreed to donate, and are not driving, please feel free to leave it here at school anytime before next Wednesday. Labeling gear with your name is also a surefire way to make sure it gets back to the right person.

We have also sent home two more papers that need to be filled out before we leave. The first is a behavior contract showing that all students agree to be respectful and follow the directions of their chaperones. The second is a detailed health information form that our OMSI educators need to have completed on each student so that they can go on a hike with us. I apologize for the late notice on each of these forms, but we do need them returned before the trip. Thanks for your cooperation.
