Sarah's Weekly Update 5-10-13

Academic Work
This week students have been learning how to do some things that Oregon pioneers might have done. They were able to knead bread dough, cook it, and eat it warm with butter they made themselves. They also learned a bit about the history of soap and were able to make a bar for themselves.

In writing, students are steadily working on revising stories to add more detail. They are picking the parts of their stories that they would like to flesh out, and are adding color in the form of vibrant vocabulary, stronger descriptions and dialogue.

Science projects are coming right along. The U of O Science Fair is on Saturday, May 18. If your student would like to participate, we have registration forms at school, and they can be turned in to us with the $20 registration fee. Whether your student enters the U of O Science Fair or not, projects will be on display here in the classroom during the project fair. That will be taking place Tuesday, May 21. Please come and see what we have been working on.

Outdoor Classroom Work Parties
On Saturday we will be having another work party if you want to put in some time towards our outdoor classroom. More volunteers are always needed, so please stop by and help out.

Amazon Walk
Don’t forget about our Amazon Walk fundraiser on May 17. Funds raised are going to help support specials, such as PE and choir. Please urge your student to find donations to support our ability to keep these programs running.

Thank you,
Sarah, Emily, and Room 7
