Sarah & Jenny's Weekly Update 4-10-14

posted Apr 14, 2014, 9:08 AM by Cynthia Friedman
This week students are starting to research the biome that they picked out last week. Specifically, they are gathering information on the botany, climate, and physical features found in their biomes. Students are also asking questions about each of these aspects as well as finding real life examples.

In writing, students are finding first-hand stories of a fun or funny event in which they took part. They are writing the first draft of a story describing what happened. Students are organizing these stories into at least five paragraphs.

Many of the math groups are taking a close look at equivalent fractions. They are coming up with rules to help them find out if two fractions are equal. Then they are using these rules to verify whether or not the two fractions are equal. One group is doing much the same thing with ratios.

Literature groups have all chosen the next book they are going to read. Next week they will start reading their books.

This week's spelling words are:
meat, lifted, process, army, hat, property, particular, swim, terms, current, combine, companion, commission, comprehend, desalination, runoff, aquifer, aqueduct, irrigation, cacophony, telecommunication, autonomy, autocrat

Math Club
Ridgeline is organizing an after school math club for upper el students. We have an adult who is excited about leading math club, and she is looking for additional support from parents. If you are interested in helping students with math after school, please contact Sharon at Thanks!

Volunteer Appreciation
We would like to send a huge thank you to all the parents who volunteer their time to the school. You make Ridgeline an amazing place to be. Because of you, we can offer things like Creative Expressions, tutoring, and the one-on-one attention that some students really need. And that just scratches the surface of what you do for the school. To show our appreciation, we would like to invite you to tea. Please join us Friday morning, April 11 from 8:30 to 9:30 for refreshments in the library to say, "Thank you" for everything you do.
