Welcome, Welcome, Welcome to Week 3 of online school!

I hope you all enjoyed the weekend and were able to relax in the sun for a minute or two...with your sunscreen on of course!

Parent Note-
Please Remember
- This is a recommended list of activities. Please adjust it to your needs and comfort level. Many of you have been in touch with me to discuss hiccups or hangups. Thank you! Communication is the best thing we can do right now to support each other. Let me know if I can help in any way. I am here to support you and your student during this time.

I am trying to keep a balance of regular activities to help you schedule and structure as well as a variety of fun/experiential activities. If you are doing an activity not on the list, send a picture! I love to see what your student is up to even if it's not a recommended activity.

Thank you for supporting your student through this online learning experience.

Recommended Activities for Online School - Week 3 - April 13 - April 17

-Math - There is a new lesson group assigned at Khan Academy. Don't worry if you didn't finish last week! Just alternate between them. Please spend at least 30 minutes a day here.

Also spend 30 minutes a day on Prodigy.

-Reading - Recommended 30 minutes a day and either write a summary or make a video about what you read (Yes, this can be a current event).

-Unconventional Journal - Daily Journal / Writing Prompt / Quote. Adriene will send the writing prompt and the quote sometime today. Just like at regular school, this is a once a week assignment. Please make sure to share with both Adriene and myself when you complete them either in Google Docs or an email. If you need to write it with paper and pencil, take a picture and email it to us if you can.

--Write at least a paragraph for the prompt. For the quote write a paragraph and tell us what you think about the quote (Do you like it?  Why or Why not?) and how it might pertain to your life (e.g. How can you apply it in your life? Where have you seen this idea in person?  Has it ever happened to you?).

-Cultural - Last week I sent an email to all of you depending on whether you were still working on Egypt or not. When you finish your Egypt research project, I will send the new Cultural studies activity.

-Current Event - Find an article and write a summary. Do at least one this week. Remember your summary must include:

--Publisher and Author and date if stated.

--At least a paragraph about the article (Who? What? Where? When? Why is this article important? Why did you choose this article?)

-Articles can be found at:

-Dogo News

-Time For Kids for current

-National Geographic Kids

-NEW OPTION-The Weekly Junior-this will open as a PDF instead of a regular website, but has some really interesting articles. Check it out!

-Geometry - Go on a Shape scavenger hunt! Find as many different shapes as you can (Make a goal! Try to find at least ten 2D shapes and five 3D shapes). Take pictures and label them for me or if that isn't possible, draw them in a Google Doc and explain where you found them.
2D Shapes-Square, Rectangle, Equilateral Triangle, Isosceles Triangle, Scalene Triangle, Right Triangle, Acute Triangle, Obtuse Triangle, Rhombus, Parallelogram, Trapezoid, Kite, Circle, Oval, Semicircle Pentagon, Hexagon, Heptagon, Octogon, Nanogon.... to name a few.
3D Shapes - Cylinder, Cube, Cone, Sphere, Tetrahedron (3 sided Pyramid), Square Pyramid (4 sided Pyramid), Triangular Prism, Rectangular Prism (also known as a cuboid).
4D Shapes - Extra points if you find a 4D shape while on your scavenger hunt.

I'll send out another STEM science activity list on Thursday. Do not feel like you have to do those activities on Thursday. I suggest doing them in a week timeframe before the new list comes next Thursday. When you do decide to do something, send me a picture so I can see your awesome creativity at work!

Well, that's all for now.  I'll see your student at the meeting 9am on Monday and we will go over this and any questions they may have.  Remember, I'll have my office hour at 12 noon to 1pm every day for any questions you may have.

Your students are the best online class I've ever had  :)
