Meridy's Update 5-15-19

posted May 15, 2019, 9:39 AM by Cynthia Friedman

This week in Room 9!  The Wheeler Wagon Train has departed Independence, Missouri and is headed to Oregon Territory!  The rivers are deep, the plains long and dry, and the food scarce. We have made it as far as Fort Laramie.  Ask your emigrant what they found there. In our Unconventional Journal this week students were given $1,000 that they could not spend on themselves.  This class is full of very kindhearted and thoughtful people. How did your student decide to spend their money?

Thank you for all the tea donations!   Students have really enjoyed the different flavors, even in the hot weather.

Dance-a-thon- The Dance-a-thon is coming up next Friday, May 17th 5:30-7:30pm. It’s sure to be a fun family event! A food cart for dinner and an ice cream cart will be in the parking lot.  Students (and adults) can make song suggestions at the front desk.

Planned Parenthood Preview Night- 5th years are scheduled to have Planned Parenthood come and present their Human Growth and Development curriculum at the end of the month.  If you are curious about what they present please attend the preview night May 22 at 6 P.M.

Outdoor School  This year room 9 has the opportunity to be the first class to participate in Outdoor School!  The River House will be leading us on some outdoor adventures with a focus on ecology. There will be a day of tree climbing, rafting on the McKenzie River (Helfrich to Leaburg Dam - Class 1-2), and a day at the challenge course on Spencer Butte.  More information coming in next week’s Friday Folder so keep your eyes open! Please let me know if you have any question.
