------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Middle School Family,

We're steady in the process of wrapping up the school year.  Most of the work students are doing for me right now is putting together all of the pieces they've learned this year into application.  There should be very little homework from my classes at this point.  I'm dominating their time in class with directed process.

Humanities/Communications

We are processing the Malheur Refuge Occupation through multiple perspectives, and learning how to write an academic essay, quoting three sources.  We've been working on analyzing articles all year. We've also been working on constructing these difficult "referential" sentences.

The students' thought process about everything we've been studying is very complex.  Communicating their great ideas in clear written language is hard to do.  Their growth as writers this year has been impressive.

Math

We finished the math books last week.  This week we're doing the big Final Exam to see how much of it stuck, and double-check if there are trouble areas we need to work on.  We're going to spend some time graphing linear equations to help freshen them up for the State testing in June.  We'll have all of this wrapped up by the end of this week, or early next week.

We'll spend the two weeks we have left before State testing on engineering problems for the school.  The students will choose between the Bike Parking Structure design and the Water Tank design projects and put their math skills to work.  Both projects will eventually be built.  The sooner the better!  If we have time, we'll work on getting material donations to make it happen!

Music

The Ridgeline Ukulele Extravaganza is BIG in Junction City.  This is the third time we've played at the JC Retirement Center.  I was approached by the activities director from another Assisted Living facility in town to do another show this summer.  It is delightful to perform for such an appreciative audience.  I received many compliments about how kind and well-behaved our students are.  Yup!

Our new sound system rocks!  Big thanks to Russ (Raven's dad) for dialing in the sound on Saturday.  We have over 60 minutes worth of music in our repertoire!  And we're cheap.  We'll play parties and weddings for a flat rate of $75 for the first hour or portion.  We'll play two 40 minute sets for $100.  All of the money goes directly into the middle school music program. Spread the word!  We'll learn song requests for paying gigs with a month's notice.
