Dear Middle School Family,

It's hard to believe that's all that's left of the school year!  Things are winding up before they wind down.

Right off the bat, I want to emphasize that the Eighth Grade Graduation is this Thursday (June 6, 6:30-8:30pm).  We've pushed the start-time of the event to 6:30pm in oder to (hopefully) better accommodate folks' work schedules.  Jessie Workman and the students are arranging an ice cream social with entertainment to follow the formal ceremony.  Ridgeline will provide the ice cream.  We ask that each family bring a topping to share (fruit, cookies, candies, nuts, sauces...)  We hope you all can join us to celebrate the students' accomplishments.

Our Uke Group performance at Cozmic Pizza was flat out amazing.  The kids' hard work really paid off in performance: the crowd LOVED us.  We've been invited to participate in some pretty exciting events next year (more on that next year).  I am so grateful for the love and effort the students have put into this music program.  It is such a joy and an honor to be able to sing and make music together every day.  Our after school rehearsals on Tuesdays will continue until the last week of school.  All middle schoolers are encouraged to attend.

I'm sure you've already heard about our field trip to the old growth forest.  We climbed 100 feet into a 450 year old tree; we hunted for bugs and decomposers in the forest; we built models of the mountains around us to understand how water flows down down down from the high points of land all the way (eventually) to the Columbia River, and then the ocean.  They're counting on having us back again next year, and we're making plans to connect our local watershed (the Amazon Creek) into the mix.  Exciting things ahead...

The Middle School's "People for the Ethical Treatment of Zombies" (PETZ) parade was a fun hit for the Amazon Walk this year.  If you haven't sent in your donations, it's not too late!

We're wrapping up the school year, academically, with projects, mostly.  Real, hands-on projects.  We're taking our movie making to a whole new level this round.  We're also building furniture out of palettes, and designing a storefront for our Snack Stand next year. And planning Field Day and putting together the Graduation ceremony.  There is a lot of important work left to do.

The days are ticking down a little too quickly for my and Carrie's taste.  We're sure going to miss the kids this Summer.  It's great to have the Fall to look forward to!

Have a great weekend,

Jon and Carrie
