Dear Middle School Family,

We clearly need to spend more time in the woods!  It was a bummer that we had to split the group last Thursday for the field trips, but everyone had a ball and learned a lot.  There is so much to be gained simply by being surrounded by big trees...

Move Up Day: 7th Graders

Which is why we need Four! volunteers to help us on Move-Up Day, Friday, June 3, from 8:40am-1:15 pm.  If we can get the support, we're going to gather the up-coming 7th graders for the whole Friday, and break the group of 48 students into "Seal Teams" of 7 students, and hike up to Mount Baldy.  It's about 5 miles roundtrip.  Not quite as ambitious as our 8-mile Spencer Butte hikes, but from the top of Mt. Baldy, we look right back down at Ridgeline.  It'll be fun to talk about our future together from that vantage point.

We'll all head up together.  Each group will have a secret task to accomplish on the way to the top!  Your job as a volunteer will be to keep your group together, help them move at a common pace, and help them complete their task by the time they get to the top.  Easy peasy, and a ton of fun.  Please let me know ASAP if you're interested.

Move Up Day: 8th Graders

The 8th graders are arranging to spend the day at a video game arcade.  They have arranged transportation from school to Valley River Center, but will need to make arrangements with you to get home, either by bus or by parent pick-up.  A permission slip came home late last week.  If you would prefer for your student to stay back at school, we will make arrangements for them to volunteer with Diana in the Kindergarten.

We are deep in the process of writing essays right now.  I'm walking the students, step by step, through the process of crafting an argument with paragraphs.  It's going well.  All these little, vital things I wish someone had shown me...  We're wrapping up this week.

ALL WORK FOR THE TERM IS DUE THIS FRIDAY.  I am going to marathon this weekend getting grades wrapped up.

Jon's Math Groups

This week, we'll get the Smarter Balanced Math Tests done during math.  I'm hoping we'll be done by Wednesday.  I want to get moving on the fun projects!

Volunteer Opportunity

Tuesday, May 31 through Thursday, June 2, we'll be testing in the morning, and doing fun stuff in the afternoons.  If you're available from 1:15-2:15pm, we're going to be doing classroom clean-up, artwork, yardwork, you name it.

If we have some volunteers, it really opens up the possibilities for what we can do out and about with 43 students!

TRUE Summer Camp

We're a go.  There are 15 students currently registered for the Summer Camp.  If you haven't already, here's the link:

Have a great week!
