Dear Middle School Family,

Our end of the year is absolutely packed with awesome.  Field trips and community service and art/music-making will dominate our days.  We started the year working and playing together to build community.  We'll end the year in much the same vein, only, at this end, we'll be building closure.

Life Science and Humanities Projects

We're spending this week wrapping up our Life Science and Humanities projects.  These are a big deal, and the students have dug deep and learned a lot.  Over the next two weeks, they'll be sharing what they've learned with the rest of the class.  Carrie and I are blown away, once again, by how hard most of the students are working on these projects.

These projects and math are all the work they have this week.  We've dropped almost all other school work, and blocked out a total of close to 20 hours of production time, in class, in the last two weeks for these Science and Humanities projects.  Please check in with your student about their progress.  The goal is for these projects to be done this week (we already postponed the deadline a week).

We are out of time.  This is absolutely the last week we will set aside time in class to work on these projects.  These projects ARE their Humanities and Life Science grades for this final Cycle.

WREN Field Trip: Monday, May 18

Thanks go out to Janene and Herb for joining us on our LTD adventure out to the Science Factory for our science field trip.  Please be sure to pack a hearty, non-microwavable lunch for your student.  The field trip is finished around noon, so we're going to play and explore down by the river and be back to school in time for pick-up at 3:15.

Mini-Concerts Downtown: Monday, June 1

Last year, we opened for the Oregon Children's Choir Festival at the Hult Center!  We spent the rest of the day playing mini concerts around town in banks and office buildings around town.  No Hult Center this year, but the whole class is going to head downtown and do mini-concerts all day Monday, June 1.

If you work somewhere in downtown Eugene, and would like to book us for a 15 minute concert, let me know.  If you want to join us for the day, we could use another adult or two to help manage the event.  It's one of the funnest things we've ever done.  So we're going to do it again!

Concert at Junction City Retirement, Tuesday, June 2

They're sending a bus to Ridgeline for 15 students.  We need transport for the other 11 students, so we can play a 45 minute set in this retirement home.  (They called us!)  They're going to come get us at 12:30pm.  We'll all head out together.  We'll play a 45 minute set, and be back in time for pick up at 3:15pm.  It's going to be a lot of fun.

8th Grade Graduation: Thursday, June 4

So far, I have 2 volunteers to organize the ice cream social.  Help!  I really need a take-charge parent to say, "I've got this," and rally the 7th grade parents to make this happen.  Carrie and I are going to be insanely busy and emotional, and we need to be able to let this detail go.  Help!

Joyful days ahead!

Jon and Carrie
