Dear Middle School Family,
One week is just the right length for a break from school. The kids came back missing each other and ready to get down to business. It's been a productive, positive, high energy week. Just the way we like it!

It's also that time of year: It's time to step up our game and put the hard work we've done all year into practice. We're going to be seeing a lot less focus on basic skills work like vocabulary and "Strong Sentences," and more project-based work, putting those skills to work in projects. The projects themselves will also get more involved and more demonstrative of the students' growing skills.

Please log in to Jupiter Grades and keep up with your student's progress. It paints a really good portrait of the work your student is doing at school, their deadlines, and my expectations. There are links, files, and instructions in Jupiter Grades for every assignment your student is responsible for. We do our best to make sure there are no surprises. Communication is KEY!

Canopy Connections Field Trip
We are not going to do the overnight on April 30. Too many logistical details and complications for a single overnight. We're still doing the amazing field day trip on Thursday, May 1. More on that later: permission slips, etc.

Oregon Children's Choir Performance
This year, Ridgeline's Middle School Uke Group has been asked to participate in the Oregon Children's Choir Festival at the Hult Center on April 22. We'll be performing two songs with the Ridgeline Choir, and two songs on our own. At the Hult Center! It's going to be amazing. But we'll only be there from 9-10:30am.

We're working on planning a downtown Eugene fieldtrip/scavenger hunt for the rest of the day... To make it awesome, we need 4 or 5 volunteers. Interested? It will run from 10:30am-3:15pm. If we can pull it together, we'll start school at the Hult Center on the 22nd, and dimiss from downtown Eugene at 3:15. I'll keep you posted.

8th Grade Graduation Volunteers!
Yup, it's time to start thinking about this. We've established a tradition where 7th grade parents organize decorations and an ice cream sundae bar, so the 8th grade parents can be fully present for the ceremony. Carrie and I take this event very seriously, and put a lot of time and energy into making the ceremony something special. 7th Grade families, please volunteer to help make this an unforgettable event! (Pay it forward.)

8th Grade Escape!
Last year, the Searl family started a fun precedent by taking the 8th graders on a last blast activity together during the school day. We called in subs for both Jon and Carrie, and went sailing on the Fernridge Resevoir for the day. The 7th graders stayed back and did community service work around campus. Last year's 7th graders are our graduating 8th graders this year. They're begging for a trip! 8th grade parents, it's up to you. Would anyone like to organize a fun day-trip for our graduates? The week of June 2 would be best. Please let me know ASAP if you'd like to take this on.
This is my favorite time of the year, and also the most bittersweet. We're so grateful for the time we get to share with your children.

Jon and Carrie
