Dear Middle School Family,

We are rocketing through these last weeks of school. There are a lot of exciting things going on right now in the Middle School classroom.

The UO Science Fair entries turned out pretty good. Congratulations to Malia, for winning third place in biology, Aleah and Megan, for winning third place in physical science, and to Celeste and Sebastien for winning first place in physical science, and grand prize for the science fair, and, "most likely to be a useful museum exhibit." Way to go! We're already plotting for next year's Science Fair.

If you haven't already read Bob Welch's article in the Register Guard about Jessica and our ukulele program, you can check it out here:
Register Guard Article. Pretty exciting stuff. Hawaii Music Supply thought so! When I asked them if they could cut us a deal on some new ukuleles, they gave us a big discount on the first 8, AND donated 4 extra. (If you're thinking about buying your student an ukulele, they've got some of the best deals out there.)

We were also invited to participate in the Aloha Friday Student Showcase at Hodgepodge on west 11th on Friday, May 18, from 6-8pm. I've attached the flyer for the event (at the bottom of this e-mail--it's a picture. It's not mandatory, but it's going to be a blast. I hope your student can join us.

Our Canopy Connections trip is next Thursday, May 3. A permission slip packet with release forms went home this week. Please be sure to get everything filled out and back to school by Monday, April 30. The field trip itself is free, but we're collecting $10 per student to help cover the cost of driving the 100 (roundtrip) miles to Blue River. It's going to be a great trip. Thanks Chuck Atwater and Boaz Sofge for volunteering to drive. Students MUST be at school by 7:45am on May 3. We will leave campus promptly at 8:00am. We will be back at school at 4:15.

Karen Fabiano has generously offered a fundraising opportunity to support students' participation in the Adventure Trip from June 11-13. I've attached the flier with the details to this e-mail. In short: there are two yard clean-up dates: Saturday, May 5 is the first one. The second date and time will be announced soon. $25 will be donated for each student who comes and works for 2 hours.

The cost, per student, for the Adventure trip will be $90 (The overnight educational program at Opal Creek's Ancient Forest Center is $55 per student, including cabins for the night and three meals). The Middle School will cover $25, leaving $65 per student. These work parties could just about cover the rest of it (if your student participates). Thank you, Karen!

Graduation is creeping up fast! If you'd like to participate in the Graduation planning committee, please let me know ASAP. We'll have our first meeting in mid-May.

Have a great weekend,
Jon and Carrie
