-------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Middle School Family,

The school year is wrapping up fast. This week, we started building full-fledged essays out of paragraphs.  The students' writing has improved so much this year. It's exciting to see them put their skills to work on a more complex task.

We finished watching "The New Americans" this week, as well. It's been an extremely humanizing window into the modern immigration experience into the United States. The students are wrapping up their investigation into US immigration laws, and are beginning their "Deep Research" projects.

Students are digging into everything from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, to what's happening in Syria, to personal family immigration stories, to refugee camps, to the history of immigration law, to...  It's going to be fun to help guide their explorations over the next few weeks.

Adventure Trip 2017
The Adventure Trip is just around the corner.  Thank you Tina Matsuno for volunteering to manage the food situation.  We'll be going to Wolf Creek Group Campground in the Umqua National Forest, about 30 miles east of Roseburg.  It's a 2-hour drive from Ridgeline.  We will leave first thing Monday morning, June 5, and return home in the afternoon on Thursday, June 8

Middle School will not have class on Friday, June 9 (the rest of the school is off on Monday, June 5).  Cost for the 4 day, 3 night trip is $60 per student. If you want to join us for the trip (we need 7 more parent chaperones), please let me know, ASAP! Thank you Jen, Erin, and Laura for signing on early!

8th Grade Graduation
Graduation this year will be the biggest in Ridgeline's history.  It's hard to believe we have 27 students graduating this year!  Graduation will be in the gym at Ridgeline on Wednesday, June 14, from 6-8pm.  The tradition is that 7th grade parents step up to help decorate and organize an ice cream sundae bar, so the 8th grade parents (and the teachers) can be present for the ceremony.  Please let me know if you'd like to volunteer to manage the ice cream.  Thank you Meredith and Daniel for volunteering early!

Fence Building Expertise Needed
The middle school is looking for a consultant to help them with plans for building a garden fence. They need an expert in this area; someone who can guide them in how to build a lovely, durable, well-constructed fence. Students will be working with Middle School Assistant Taylor Makin on this project. She is thinking of livestock paneling with a wooden frame. If you can lend a hand in this area please contact Taylor at taylor.makin@ridgeline.org.

Ukulele Update
This Saturday, April 15, is a big Family Day at the Jordan Schnitzer Art Museum at the UO.  Visit the Museum for free!  There will be storytellers and dancers, and TRUE is performing at 1pm.  It's going to be a fun day.

Project Fair is April 25. To represent what happens in the back of Building B, TRUE will be performing in front of the school from 3:30-4:00pm, and from 6:15-6:45pm.

The rest of the year is going to be Action Packed!  Hold on to your hats.
Jon and Maizzy
