Dear Middle School Family,
It certainly feels like Spring is finally here. Just in time for Break! Hope you have some fun planned for the short vacation. Please remember that classes don't resume until Tuesday, April 1. (No joke.)

Hike this Friday
We're going to kick Spring Break off right: On Friday, it's supposed to be 60 degrees and sunny, so we're going to hike from school up to Spencer's Butte and back in time for pickup at 1:15. Please be sure to send your student to school this Friday, March 21, with a hearty lunch and sensible shoes. If you have the day off, come join us! It's going to be a blast.

Ukulele Happenings
Things are heating up for our ukulele group after we get back from break. We'll continue with after school rehearsals from 3:15-4:15pm every Tuesday. Jennifer Searl has asked the Middle School (all of us) to participate in the Oregon Children's Choir Festival on April 22. We'll be performing 2 songs with the Ridgeline Choir, and 2 songs of our own, get this: at the Hult Center! I'll send home permission slips and more information after the break.

Mark your calendar, though, please. The middle school will only stay for the morning performance. We'll be on stage around 9:30am and back on campus by 10:30am. I may need help with transportation...

Assignment Deadlines
Cycle 5 is wrapping up this week. Starting after Spring Break, and for the rest of the year, we're going to tighten up our deadlines for assignments. With the exception of excused absences, we're not going to accept late work after the week it was due. (If it was due Tuesday, and they get it in by Friday, that's fine, but after Friday, we won't accept it.)

Academic rigor is a two-fold responsibility: do your best work, and tun it in on time. After 5 Cycles, your student is familiar with the routines and expectations. Carrie and I stay pretty on top of our end of the deal with grading. Check Jupiter Grades! If you see your student lagging, it's quite possible that they're doing the work; they're just not turning it in! Please help!

Hands On Work
The weather has been prohibitive, to say the least. After Spring Break, we'll be settling back into our routine with Hands On projects around school. It will happen on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons. If you're looking to volunteer some hours, this would be a great way to do it! Let me know if you'd like to help. (We really need the help!)

Have a great Spring Break!
Jon and Carrie
