Dear Middle School Family,

We filmed our third episode of the RMS World News last Friday. We're still working out some of the kinks, but I know you'll agree that the production quality and students' performances have already improved dramatically. Please check them out with your student!

The production cycle for the news shows is settling into a refined routine. The assignments that students must complete over the course of the two-week cycle are all in Jupiter Ed, and the instructions for each assignment are very detailed. The students' input into how the process works has been invaluable as we continue to grow and develop.

What's fun about a recurring project like this is it gives the students a very clear picture of their improvement each time. It also makes it easier to identify what small steps they can make to improve their performance for the next show. As the work they need to complete for each production becomes routine for them, a lot of their anxiety fades away, and it leaves more energy for them to shine.

We'll have two more episodes of the RMS World News before Spring Break.

Explorations Proposals
On Thursday this week, we asked students to look more closely at what they were doing with their Explorations time on Fridays, and come up with a goal-based proposal for what they'd like to be working on. Even if they want to keep doing what they've been doing.

The purpose behind the Explorations time is for students to have the opportunity to set aside time to work on learning what they feel driven to learn. They filled out the Proposal in class on Thursday, and have a homework assignment to bring it home and talk with you about the feasibility of what they'd like to pursue.

Our resources at school are limited, so one of the things they need to work with you to consider is how they can obtain the necessary materials for their Exploration, or possibly how they can access resources outside of school.

One major consideration, of course, is safety. Pursuits like skateboarding or parkour are simply too dangerous for us to manage at school. Please work with your student this weekend to come up with a realistic choice for Explorations. I've attached the Proposal Form to this e-mail, in case it didn't make it home. There are more details on the form.

We could also use adult volunteers on Fridays to help make some of these pursuits possible. Especially outdoor pursuits. Please let me know if you'd like to help from 10:50am-1:05pm every Friday.

Thanks for your support. Have a great weekend,

Jon and Maizzy
