3 is wrapping up this week, officially marking the halfway point
through the year. Please encourage your student to turn stuff in! Too
many of the "City Tourism" projects "steps" didn't get turned in
properly. Help your student make sure their grade reflect the work they
did! I'll also accept Book Reviews until Noon Sunday. I have to print up report cards on Sunday afternoon. They should come home by the end of next week. TRUE Happenings Holy
TRUE Performances, Batman! We already have six gigs booked for the
next two months. Three of them are paying gigs! I've made arrangements
with a local recording studio to get us back into the studio to record a
CD in May. We're working on a whole new batch of songs with Isaac L.
on the drum kit, and a few songs with Joey on harmonica, and Luke on
violin. It's a whole new TRUE. If you have a 7th grader, please
encourage them to take drum lessons, so we have a drummer next year.
Please come support the band at Whirrled Pies on February 23rd. The kids sound amazing. Writing We're
upping our game with the Article of the Week. We're examining Media
and building the students' background knowledge from many perspectives
before they respond to the weekly articles. This will eventually grow
to the point where the Articles of the Week assignments will be in
preparation for more elaborate papers, exploring ideas with the support
of multiple sources. We're also going to start incorporating this process of writing and discussing ideas into talking about fiction and poetry. Civic Action These
City Projects took over our work period this week. Next week, we'll
get back to the important business of writing Real Policy to manage some
of our community's behavior here at Ridgeline. We have many steps to
move through before the Policies can be put in place, if they make it
that far. It's been a good, very real, experience of how change in a
community happens. Slowly. We're determined, though, to see it
through. Next week returns to a more "Normal" routine. (If you can call what we do, "Normal...") Best, Jon and Maizzy |
