Dear Middle School Family,

Carrie and I missed your kids.  We really did.  It's so great to have them back!

Holy headstock, Batman!  I wasn't kidding about the ukulele action when we got back!  Aaron Thomas, the Uke-Master out at North Eugene High School, called me over break and asked if we'd open for North at their annual fundraiser at Cozmic Pizza again this year.  I'll admit, I hesitated a moment and counted the rehearsal days we'd have before I said, "Sure.  Half-hour set?  No problem."

These rehearsals are essential to our Awesome.  Please encourage your student to participate in the The Ridgeline Ukulele Extravaganza (TRUE)!  Attendance at the after school rehearsals is absolutely mandatory for participation at the performances.  (We have a reputation to uphold!)  We also have a lot of fun.

This is just the beginning of our performance schedule.  (I also get requests over summer...)  Just crazy!

We had such a blast at Honeyman last year, that we're going to do it again.  We'll mix up the activities, but it's pretty tough to beat the Adventure opportunities on the Oregon Coast, just an hour and a half's drive away.  Less driving means more time for fun (and less expense).

THE BIG QUESTION is how do you feel about your student coming back to Eugene the DAY AFTER school gets out?  We'd like to plan the trip to leave Monday, June 8 by 9:30am, and be back in Eugene by 1:30pm on Thursday, June 11.  The last day of school is Wednesday, June 10.

I have to pay for the group campsites in advance, and I need to do it right away.

If this is going to be problematic, I need to know right away.  This trip is the capstone of our year together.  It's a chance for all of us to be... 'Us' together without all the academic pressures.  The students are pretty much down.  No-brainer.  =)

January to June is where the rubber hits the road.  The habits and expectations are settling into place, and we're more or less settled in to the Middle School.  This is the time, with fewer, shorter breaks in routine, that the real growth and learning happens.

Please keep checking in with your student about their schoolwork.  They really do care that you care.

Jon and Carrie
