----------------------------------------------

Dear Middle School Family,

It's great to be back! This final stretch is always my favorite time of the year. We've been working hard all year to build the knowledge, the systems, and skillsets for the students to engage in deep, meaningful work.

This week, the students started digging into current events around the U.S. that relate to the Critical Issues they have become experts about. We're looking for trends in the way that communities around the U.S. are working to make a difference (or not) about things like homelessness, quality education, and climate change. The last few weeks of school, students will be taking on service learning projects to make a positive difference in our own local community.

8th Grade Tree2Tree Field Trip
On May 16, the 7th graders will be joining Carrie and India on the Canopy Connections field trip at H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest.

The 8th graders will be going with Jon and Maizzy to Tree2Tree Adventure Park outside of Forest Grove. Cost for the Tree2Tree field trip is $50 per student. Scholarships are available. No one will be left behind. We need some parent volunteers to help us drive students there. If you would also like to participate in the ropes course, the cost will be $50 for you, as well. We'll be sending the link to the permission form to the trip very soon.

Move-Up Day
On Friday, May 24, the 6th graders will be coming up to the middle school to go on our annual hike. We'll be gone all day. Traditionally, the 8th graders have worked with their parents to organize some fun way to spend the day together. If this sounds like something you would like to help the 8th graders organize, please let me know!

8th Grade Graduation
8th grade graduation is on Thursday, June 6, from 6-8pm. Ridgeline tradition is for some 7th grade parents to volunteer to decorate and manage the ice cream social, so the 8th grade families can be present with their graduating students. If you would like to step up to help make the graduation ceremony amazing, please let me know.

Adventure Trip
This year's adventure trip will be at the Wolf Creek campground just east of Roseburg in the Umpqua National Forest. It's a really terrific spot with a HUGE covered area, fresh water, and flush toilets. We have the entire campground to ourself. We'll camp from Monday, June 10 to Thursday, June 13. The last day of school is Friday, June 14. We'll spend Friday getting the classroom cleaned up and ready for summer. We'll be sending out the permission slip later in May.

We have so many exciting things going on to wrap up the school year. These last days of school are going to zip by! Please encourage your student to continue to do their best work. It really is their time to shine, and show off what they've learned.

Best,
Jon and Maizzy
