Kinder Weekly Update 9-26-13

We appreciate all who made it to our meeting, “A Taste of Kindergarten.” Remember to log your volunteer hour.

And thanks to those who have sent us cucumbers. Peeling and slicing these is a popular activity. We have added melon ball scooping to the food prep counter in celebration of the letter “m,” our letter of the week. Another practical life activity is threading a needle and sewing on a button along with bubble making with a whisk, dinosaur bathing.

We have had our first astronomy lesson: “The Solar Calendar.” The children have begun taking turns being calendar leader, which involves moving the earth about a degree along its orbit around the sun, announcing the current date, and holding the Earth flag while the class stands, takes on the sincere gesture (hand on heart) and recites “The Kindness Pledge.”

Works from the art shelves that have been introduced are tracing on the light table, collage, and crayon rubbing. New language lessons are opposites cards, rhyming cards, sequencing cards and sorting objects according to their initial sound. Building the United States flag is on the geography shelves.

We have done box-building with our upper-elementary reading buddies.
Reminder: If you plan to volunteer on campus or be a chaperone on a fieldtrip this year be sure your background check is in process.

All School Meeting

Ridgeline’s Board of Directors is hosting an All School Meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 6:30 to 7:30 in the gym. It will be a chance to learn about Montessori education and to hear about the important work of the Capital Campaign. There will also be a potluck cookie bar, so please feel free to bring something to share.
