Kinder Weekly Update 11-16-12

posted Nov 16, 2012, 12:46 PM by Cynthia Friedman
The children enjoy the food prep and cooking that we do on a regular
basis. They especially enjoyed making banana bread last Friday.

A big project this week is weaving paper placemats. These will be
laminated for long term use and sent home in time for Thanksgiving.

Our Shape and Say story is “Felicia Flamingo’s Feather,” featuring the
letter “f” and its sound.

The children are looking forward to reciting the two poems that they
have been practicing for the Book fair at Barnes & Noble – Friday
evening, November 16. See you there at 6:00.

The kindergarten class will contribute peeled and sliced carrots for
the stone soup that will be made for our celebration lunch next
Wednesday. Please send your child with a carrot (or two) to prep the
day before – Tuesday, November 20.

Design Bridge – Community Input – Tuesday, November 20, 5:30-7:30pm

Design Bridge - is a student-run organization at the University of
Oregon which works directly with the community, while enriching
architecture students' knowledge. One of our projects this year is to
design an outdoor interactive space at Ridgeline Montessori. The space
will provide outdoor learning opportunities year-round to enrich even
more of the school's curriculum. Possible elements of the program
include: a greenhouse, garden beds, composting, rainwater catchment,
and more!

With the collaboration of students from 7th and 8th grade we have
started our design process. In the current stage we are reaching out
to all Ridgeline students, parents, and staff to help us in the design
scheming process. What ideas do you have for an outdoor classroom?
What kind of learning do you think should happen here? What will it
look like? We would like to answer these questions by leading a design
activity and discussing the school's community vision of this project.
This will be a great opportunity for you to have your thoughts,
concerns, and creative solutions heard by the design team!

If you are interested in learning more about the project and sharing
your ideas, join us Tuesday, November 20th, 6-8pm at Ridgeline for an
evening of creative thinking! You will be expressing your ideas
through drawings, collage, model making, and much more!

We hope to see you there!
