Missing: A few little melamine bowls (some yellow, some green) are missing. They could have gone home in lunches because sometimes children use them for their snacks.

Our Chinese intern will be leaving us soon. Rachael’s last day will be next Friday. The children will make thank you pages that will be bound into a book. Rachael is leaving with a bang. She has given daily lessons on Chinese culture. Recent activities have included using the Chinese bamboo brush to make Chinese characters and paint pandas, cutting pull flowers, using chopsticks and assembling dragon lanterns. Words practiced have been related to good luck and the New Year. The story of the Silk Road will be presented tomorrow.

Our Shape and Say story is “Polly’s Powder Puff”. We will make pancakes in honor of the letter “p.”

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has been our topic this week. In addition to reading about him, we are making Nobel Peace Medals to present to our upper elementary reading buddies when they join us on Friday to celebrate MLK Day. We will listen to a recording of the “I Have a Dream” speech and sing along to “We Shall Over Come” performed in many different languages.

Save the Date: Talent Show on January 31
