Diana's Weekly Update 9-10-14

Our class parent meeting is scheduled for Thursday evening September 18 from 6:30-7:15. Childcare is available by reservation in advance (call the office). The agenda will provide a glimpse of our language arts group activities that promote community building as well as literacy. New parents to the Ridgeline kindergarten program are encouraged to attend. Others are welcome to repeat if you choose.

The Ridgeline Rising Silent Auction and Block Party event at Southtowne Shoppes is just around the corner (October 11th to be exact)! Each classroom selects a theme for a basket to be included in the silent auction and students are invited to contribute theme related items valued at $10 or less OR donate $10 cash (to be used by volunteers to purchase items for the basket). Our classroom’s basket theme is All Things Lego! Contact Kristen Mathews (Kaylie) and Amy Sage (Samantha), our classroom basket organizers or Cynthia if you have any questions.

Our class is busy orienting to the new environment and community. Our first games and songs help in learning each other’s name. The different materials are introduced gradually over the first weeks so the children have an opportunity to practice their correct use including how to take them from the shelves and return them to their specific locations ready for the next student. We are discussing different ways to consider others so that we can support each other’s learning and growing, in work and play.

We had P.E. for the first time this week. We have a volunteer assistant for the Monday class but still need one for the Wednesday 1:00-1:30 time. Coach Betsy has requested that the children wear close-toed shoes on these days.

Reminder: Extended day tuition is due on the first of each month. We encourage families to set up automatic bill payment through their bank. Complete the Family Income Survey Form and the Financial Assistance Form if you need financial assistance for extended day kindergarten.
