Diana's Weekly Update 3-12-15

posted Mar 12, 2015, 10:35 AM by Cynthia Friedman
This month we are learning the rhyme and rhythm patterns for limericks—listening to limericks and writing some as a group. Each student will write one for homework and share it with the class on Friday, March 20.

Magnetism was the topic of Yaeko’s small group science lessons.

Preparation for the Project Fair on April 30 is underway. Two students from lower-el presented a lesson on fiction and nonfiction. As a class we will create a research poster, modeling and practicing the different skills that are part of the research and presentation process. Instructions and supplies for each child’s project will be sent home the Monday after spring break. It will be spread over a two-week period.

Each child has designed a sash to sew by her-/himself. These will be worn at the kindergarten music program on Thursday, May 7, 6:30-7:00.

Recent Shape and Say stories have focused on the letters and sounds of “v” and “e.” Emily supervised small-group prep of “especially edible eggs.”

March songs: “You Are My Dollar,” “It’s a Shamrock,” and “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The children have enjoyed taking turns performing a skit about Francis Scott Key.

Next Tuesday afternoon we will perform original puppet shows with our upper-el reading buddies.

Quiet Space Support/Tutor Needed: We’re looking for volunteers who have time in the morning to support students working in a quiet space outside of the classroom. Students may be working on individual work plans, on quiet partner work, or on group projects. The volunteer would introduce herself or himself, ask the children what they’re working on, stay close by to help when needed, and help maintain an attitude of focus in the space. Please contact Cynthia if you’re interested!
