Diana's Weekly Update 10-15-15

We have had our first astronomy lesson: “The Solar Calendar.” The children have begun taking turns being calendar leader, which involves moving the earth about a degree along its orbit around the sun, announcing the current date and holding the Earth flag while the class stands and recites “The Kindness Pledge.”

Our Shape and Say story is “Alex the Alligator,” featuring the letter “a” and its sound. We’re making applesauce in celebration. Each child will crank an apple through the peeling, coring slicing tool. S/he will eat half and put the rest in the slow cooker for a batch of applesauce. Yummy!

Our CIK story is “Nobody Likes Me,” focusing on initiating social interaction.

Pumpkin pillow sewing is a new work. The children are learning to thread needles and sew a seam using running stitches.

The children brought leaves, galls, seeds, etc. back from our Tuesday nature walk. They are gluing these signs of fall onto a banner that reads “I Like Fall.”

New songs/rhymes: “Rags,” “Five Little Pumpkins,” and “Witches Brew.”

On-going need: Crossing Guards – Our class is responsible for finding someone to serve as a crossing guard on Wednesday mornings between 8:20-8:35 at the private, no-name street. Please consider helping with this. Maybe make a one-month commitment like we do for laundry?

Curriculum Sharing-Tuesday, October 20. An early option is 3:15-4:15 and the later opportunity is from 6:00-7:00. A time for your child to show you around the classroom.

Conference Days October 30 & November 2 –This is a brief check in. Students are welcome but do not necessarily need to attend.

Outdoor Work Party this Saturday, October 17th
