Diana's Weekly Update 1-15-15

posted Jan 15, 2015, 10:58 AM by Cynthia Friedman
We are continuing our astronomy studies of the solar system, including the tilt of the earth. One craft is a model of the moon orbiting around the earth while the earth orbits around the sun. Another craft is a constellation wheel.

Our weekly Shape and Say story features the letter “p” and its sound. One word is peace, a topic we’re discussing as it relates to the leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Nobel Peace Prize. The children will be making peace medals and decorating them with a symbol that represents peace to them. Other sound-of-the-week activities is making popcorn and learning a new rhyme: “Song of the Popcorn.”

Our current sewing project is a winter banner. The children are sewing a snowy night scene including a snowman with carrot nose and stars in the sky.

Inclement Weather and Emergency Closures

In the case of inclement weather that would make roads, school parking lots, driveways, or sidewalks unsafe for travel, Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School will be closed when the 4J school district is closed. If Ridgeline is scheduled to be in session, and no announcement is made, school is still in schedule as planned.

The 4J school district will make this announcement in many ways, which are (as of Dec 2013):
· 4J’s website,
· Twitter @4Jweather / text message alerts
· KRVM 91.9 FM, and other local TV and radio stations.

School closure and bus route decisions normally are made early in the morning and announced by 6:30 a.m. This is to ensure the most current weather conditions are assessed. Decisions are made district-wide and are the same for every 4J school.

Ridgeline Montessori will delay opening when 4J schools are scheduled to open on a delayed schedule.

Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School may be in session on a day when 4J happens to be already out of session. In this case, Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School will make the announcement on its web site,

Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School values safety above all else. Neither 4J nor Ridgeline can make a decision based on conditions nearby to individual families or staff. Families and staff are encouraged to consider road and sidewalk conditions in their areas and make decisions based on safety. Ridgeline Montessori honors parents’ decisions about school attendance in these conditions. Staff members should contact the school and exercise leave options available to them when they believe they are unable to get to work safely.
