Stone Soup Celebration

We will be having a Stone Soup Celebration on Wednesday, November 25th.  It will be a day when we all come together for a meal and watch a performance of Louisiana Fiddle Music in the gym.  The performance will involve a 40-minute musical and story-telling presentation of Louisiana culture with Kelly Thibodeaux on the fiddle, accompanied by a guitarist. Kelly will play original and traditional fiddle tunes and sing original songs to illustrate the various cultural highlights of life down in southern Louisiana …. songs about alligators, swamps, fishing, and eating crawfish (“mudbugs” ).  There will also be a brief demonstration of the violin and the many magical sounds that it can produce, such as the imitation of the sound of hurricane winds.

Please help us make the day is a success by ensuring that your student has $2 for the performance and brings their chosen vegetable in on Tuesday, the 24th.  Also, remember you can sign up in the office to help clean and chop vegetables in the morning.

Volunteering in the Classroom

We have an opportunity for volunteers to come into the classroom in the mornings from Monday to Thursday.  These times would be predominately working with students, however we do have materials-making jobs that could be done elsewhere in the building, if you prefer.  We have a particular need on Monday mornings to do spelling tests.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me so that it can be arranged.

Raz-Kids Reading Comprehension

We will finish trialling Raz-Kids, a computer-based reading comprehension program, at the end of this week.  According to our feedback, many of the students have really enjoyed the program so we are asking for contributions of $2 from families to go towards the $100/year subscription fee.

Classroom Wishlist

During conferences, many families graciously offered additional support in the classroom, either in the form of new materials or volunteer hours.  This is wonderful!  I have set up a wish list on Amazon for items which will supplement our Montessori materials and the work that we are doing in the classroom (Room 8 Wishlist:

School Spirit Fridays

All students now have their Ridgeline t-shirt! Starting November 6, we want to show our school spirit by inviting everyone to wear Ridgeline gear or blue (this year’s school color) on Fridays. Please join in!

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns!
