Dear Middle School Family,

As always, it was sincerely a pleasure to take the time to sit down with our students and their families at conferences to discuss how things are going.  Sounds like things are going well!  Please know that if you were unable to make the conference times, or if you ever want to check in with us, our whole Middle School Team is committed to Relationships above all else.  Let's meet!

If you're feeling it, Sooner is ALWAYS better than Later.

Civic Action
We spent the day after the election working in small teams on our Civic Action Projects.  I didn't make space to for potentially contentious discussion about the results of the election.  That is not my place.  Instead, I put the students to work engaging in positive action for the betterment of our community, as planned.  On Wednesday, the four teams worked together to clearly define the Problems they are tackling.

Next week, they'll start interviewing and surveying stakeholders in the Ridgeline Community, in order to better understand how the Problems are perceived by the community.  Our hope, of course, is that the Ridgeline Community will agree that these are pressing problems, and that the students' efforts to engage the community will begin to generate enthusiasm and support.

Policy is only effective if the members of the community understand it, embrace it, and participate in its execution.  The process for changing Policy, or establishing Policy, is not simple, and it's not quick.  We're going to take our time and do this right.  I keep emphasizing to the students that this is for real.  We're not playing at this.  We're doing it.

Complaining that something is not working does not make it work.  We're going to do the work to make these Policies work better for all of us.

TRUE Expansion
Participation Agreements are coming home for TRUE this week.  If your student wants to participate in The Ridgeline Ukulele Extravaganza, they are required to enroll in the Monday/Wednesday Ukulele Elective.  They also must be able to participate in After School rehearsals on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:15pm.  We will start All-In Rehearsals on Tuesday, November 29.  Please return the Participation Agreements and payment as soon as possible.

Barnes and Noble Bookfair
Next Friday, November 18 is the Barnes and Noble Bookfair.  The middle school ukulele elective participants will be playing at about 6pm.  If your student is in the Ukulele Elective and wants to participate, please arrive at Barnes and Noble no later than 5:40pm.  We'll be done by 6:30pm.

That's it for this week.  Take good care of each other.

Jon and Maizzy
