Amazon Community Garden

By now you may have heard your student talking about the Amazon Community Garden that we have set up in the classroom.  This is a scenario that we will be using to explore how communities work together, and as a setting for many of our regular subject lessons, eg. calculate the area of our garden plots (geometry), write a PSA inviting people to apply for a plot (informational and persuasive writing), research which crops to grow (science), etc.  Here is a picture of our basic site.  We will continue to add to this frieze as we continue our scenario.

Personal Items at School

Please remind your student that they should try to leave personal items at home, as much as possible.  They can (and should) have a book they are reading in class, but they shouldn’t bring in lots of books.   Personal electronics are also restricted.

Lunch Items

The kids are growing like weeds and we have had many requests for items from the pantry (which is fine).  But this might be a good time to have a conversation with your student to see if they need a little bit more in their lunch every day to support their growing bodies.  Also, please ensure that they have the cutlery they need and that any items that need to be cut-up are done so at home since knives (kitchen knives, pocket knives, etc.) are restricted.

Birthday Bash

January’s Birthday Bash will be held on Friday, January 26th.  Please feel free to send a snack to share to the classroom on that day.

PS:  Please return the Friday Folder to the classroom on Monday!
