Parent Conferences

Thank you so much to parents who were able to attend conferences!  That is such an important way that we can work together to support your student.  Also, Jonathan and I will continue to process the great feedback we received from students and families. If you had a conference and still have questions (or you just have a question!), please do not hesitate to contact me (mary.bach-jackson@ridgeline.org).

Barnes and Noble Book Fair

We will be doing the sketch "Mouse Woman and the Snails" at the Barnes and Noble Book Fair on Friday, November 16th.  It is VERY important that your student arrives for the event by 7:00pm at the very latest. Please note that there is road construction on I-105 so plan accordingly (you might want to investigate an alternative route).  We will meet in the toy area to the right of the store when you enter. Students should wear their Ridgeline Montessori t-shirts for the performance, if they have one, or a plain colored shirt.

Upcoming Study Units

After Thanksgiving we will be starting two new study units:  Pioneering in Benthic Territory, and Electricity. The Pioneering in Benthic Territory unit will be a Storyline adventure where the students create characters who will be setting up homesteads on the ocean floor.  This unit is inspired by the reading we are doing in the book Dark Life by Kat Falls.  So expect to hear stories about ocean farming, bubble fences, and taxation without representation in the coming weeks.  You might also hear requests for a copy of the sequel to Dark Life which is Rip Tide.

Our unit on electricity will involve learning about several different types of circuitry, switches, and electromagnetism, and then combining that knowledge with building useful and beautiful toys, tools, and art objects.  We will also be having a cross-over activity with our Benthic Territory unit when the students will research a deep sea creature with bioluminescence and then create an example of it that actually lights up to go on to our wall in the classroom!  We are currently in scrounge mode for some of the materials in our unit, so if you have any 9volt batteries, wooden paint stirrer sticks, or CR3032 coin batteries we could have, please contact me.

Stone Soup

Next Wednesday we will be celebrating our annual Stone Soup gathering.  In order to prepare for the event, we ask students to bring in some vegetables that we will be preparing on Tuesday to go into the soup pots on Wednesday.  I will be speaking to students about which vegetables they may bring on Friday. Then on Wednesday, we ask everyone to bring their own bowl and spoon.

Volunteering in the Classroom

We have an opportunity for volunteers to come into the classroom in the mornings from Monday to Thursday.  These times would be predominately working with students, however we do have materials-making jobs that could be done elsewhere in the building or at home, if you prefer.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me so that it can be arranged.

Birthday Bash

There will be no Birthday Bash in November since there is already a special community event planned, Stone Soup.

Weekly Report

There is no weekly report this week since it is such a short week and almost everything on the board is due next week.

PS:  Please return the Friday Folder to the classroom on Monday!
