Chase Community Giving:  Vote for Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School

           A special thank you to all the Ridgeline families/friends and the larger Montessori community for supporting our school in the Chase Community Giving Grant.  We have enjoyed contributing our voices and artwork to the school video and the coverage of our morning work cycle on the news.  The students were also very enthusiastic about creating fliers for voting and spreading the word in their neighborhoods.  We had the opportunity to pass out fliers near the post office and connected with many people in the community who were genuinely interested in supporting our school.  The collaboration, support, and dedication among the students, families, and larger world earned our school a $25,000 grant and opened the pathways for many more successes to come.  It means a lot to know that people around the world are taking a stand for the value of public Montessori that Ridgeline provides.

 

Going Out

          We recently had going outs to Matthew Knight Arena and Borders/Smith Family Bookstore.  Thank you Alan Brandenfels for being a guide to Matthew Knight Arena and supporting the researching, planning, and interests of our class.  Thank also to Patrick McMullen for being a guide to the bookstores.  The students were absolutely delighted and empowered to purchase books for our class with the funds they raised from the muffin sale! A group of students is working on scheduling a going out to the Portland Zoo the week of June 6.  Thank you Margaret Desser for being the parent guide.

 

Class Camping Trip June 1-3

       It has been a great experience in community building, as our class has been working together in planning our camping trip to Tugman State Park on the Oregon Coast!  The students participated in choosing the campsite, researching the yurts, planning the menu/grocery list, and calculating the cost of the trip.  This is an example of the practical life planning skills that Montessori students develop during the second plane of development when group work is so powerful and the reasoning mind is coming to fruition.

         

          Thank you to all the families for contributing food items and camping/cooking equipment.  A special thank you to the parent volunteers for being chaperones and drivers:  Susan Goddard, Serafina Clarke, Hannah Torres, Catharine Inocencio, Betsy Brandenfels, Kristina Nguyen, and Boaz Sofge.  All paperwork for the trip went home with families to complete and return by May 27.  In addition, please bring food items and camping/cooking equipment to school on May 27.  Below is a copy of the packing list sent home to each student and our trip itinerary:

Muffin Sale May 27

         

         Our students are as dedicated as ever to the class business!  They will be selling muffins at dismissal on Fri., May 27.  Proceeds will go toward class books and supplies.
