Dana's Weekly Update 9-5-14

Greetings Families!

I am very excited to be starting a new school year with your super kiddos! We have a great mix this year of room 8 experts and fabulous new students. It has been a strong start and we are already getting settled with this year’s routines and expectations.

Class meeting: On Wednesday, Sept. 10th from 6:30-7:30 we will be meeting as families to discuss the coming year. We will meet on the north playground for a picnic then head inside the classroom for a short information and question/answer session. Things to bring: dinner for your family, picnic blanket, your calendar/schedule (to sign up for volunteering in the classroom), excitement about the new year!

Friday folders: Each Friday your child will bring home a Ridgeline folder. Please sign papers, remove returned work and look over and sign the weekly work plan. Have your child put the folder back in their backpack to return to school on Monday. For the first couple of weeks you will see some of last year’s work coming home as well J

Calendar Research Project: Our first big project of the year has begun! Students have looked at examples and heard from our class experts about this fun research project. Please take a second to read through the attached project sheet. At our class meeting we will look at some examples and I will be happy to answer any questions.

No Microwave Use: Please send your child with a lunch that does not require microwave use. It uses up a lot of the kids’ lunch period to wait in line and also the teachers’ and assistants’ time to supervise. Thanks!

Paperwork Due: Please be sure your child has returned all the required beginning of the year paperwork:
1. purple permission form (including walking field trip permission)
2. green family income survey

Clothing guidelines: As you are filling in those school wardrobes, please remember that, as per the Ridgeline dress code, spaghetti straps are not allowed and the shorts/skirts guideline is that the length must reach to the bottom of a student’s fingertips.

Email contact: Next week I will mail my Friday update electronically. Please contact me if you do not receive it via email so that I can be sure you are added correctly to the list. Please send a note if you prefer a hard copy.

Thanks for sharing your amazing and unique kids with us!
