Dana's Weekly Update 9-26-14

Class Book Basket: The Ridgeline Rising Silent Auction and Block Party is coming up on October 11th. Remember that our classroom basket theme is BOOKS. If your family is able, please donate an item valued at around $10 OR donate $10 cash (to be used by volunteers to purchase items for the basket). Thanks to Dee for taking on the organization of our basket and thanks to all of you who have already donated items and/or money to our basket!

Donation Request: An upcoming class project will need some supplies that you might have around your house...

1. Mini mortar and pestles. Our class will need to borrow at least five of these for a couple of weeks.
2. Very small zip-lock baggies. the ones that measure 2"x 3" will work the best. Between the three Upper Elementary classes we could use close to 1,000 of these bags. If I don't hear from anyone by mid-week, I will order a carton from Amazon.com.
3. Non-toxic model cement. Is there a such thing? We could use at least 3 tubes of the stuff.
4. Wheat berries. Yes, the entire wheat kernel (except for the hull). A 24 ounce bag should suffice.
5. Five sewing kits comprised of needles and thread. We already have some of these kits in the classroom, but I anticipate needing a few more.

I can make sure the sewing kits, and mortar and pastels get returned. Everything else would be used.

Thank you!

Volunteer Sign-Up: Many of you who were able to attend our back to school meeting signed up to help out in the classroom. To help us organize all these great offers of help, Clint has graciously shared his format for an online document that you can use to see and sign up for ways to help our classroom. There are opportunities to help students with projects and daily work during morning work time and also some short-term special projects that could be done at school or at home. When you see a time slot or project that works for you, type your name in the appropriate column and we will have immediate access to that information. This will allow you to sign up for what works for you and will also let others know what is already taken care of. The document will change regularly as we fulfill needs and identify new needs. If you have not yet filled out the background check and turned in the needed documents for driving, please stop by the office to do that or send me an email and I will send them home with your child.

Please take a moment to look at this document and sign up for what you can do. THANKS!!!
