Class Book Basket: The Ridgeline Rising Silent Auction and Block Party is coming up on October 11th. Remember that our classroom basket theme is BOOKS. If your family is able, please donate an item valued at around $10 OR donate $10 cash (to be used by volunteers to purchase items for the basket). We also still need a volunteer to help to put all the items together in a basket before the big event. Please email Cynthia if you are interested.

Friday folders: Quick reminder: Be sure to look at your child’s weekly work plan tonight and sign the back. Send it back in the folder on Monday. Any work that is highlighted should be completed at home and sent to school in the folder as well. Your student should have all the necessary work and support materials in their backpack to do this work.

Calendar Research Project: The kids are starting to hit their stride with this project! Your student should be starting their 5th and 6th research rough drafts and should be writing math problems to equal the numbers 9-12 this coming week. If you are working at home, please remind your student that they should read the research material on their topic and write down “fact fragments.” These fact fragments are simply a few words to remind them of important facts and details. I suggest that your student do this one paragraph at a time. After they have collected the important details, they should close their research book and turn their fact fragments into paragraph form. This method allows them to think about what is important in the information they read and it also helps them to write what they have learned in their own words. This fact-collecting step is crucial in the learning process, as we all know that the straight regurgitation of verbatim facts from a book is not the best way encourage understanding and retention. ☺

Student Council: Congratulations to our new student council members Amalie and Niko! They will represent our classroom in a monthly meeting. Their job will include contributing ideas and suggestions that they have gathered from their peers about a variety of topics and reporting back to us with important events and decisions from those meetings.
