Dana's Weekly Update 5-7-15

posted May 7, 2015, 11:03 AM by Cynthia Friedman

Dear Families,

Shakespeare Homework: Please work with your child at home on lines and cues.  They should practice speaking clearly, loudly and slowly.  They should also work on using body language (ask your child about “overacting”) to match their lines, and they should remember to face out to the audience

Our evening performance has been scheduled for May 29th from 6:00-7:00.

How you can help:

·      Work with your student at home on memorizing lines

·      Work with your student on creating a costume appropriate for the time period and their character’s role in society

·      Assisting/supervising painting of backdrops/prop creation with small groups

·      Dying muslin red for our Capulets (we have our blue Montague fabric already)- to be done at home (or donating red fabric for costuming)

·      Sewing tunics at home for costume pieces

·      Lending body microphones for the performance

·      Baking cookies/bars for sale at intermission for a theater fundraiser

Let me know how/when you are available to assist J

UO Science and Invention Fair:  Even if your student is not entering the UO fair, it is a fun event to attend and may help them feel inspired and ready to enter next year!  There will be lots of fun activity tables during the fair and free workshops.  The fair opens at 11:00 and awards will be handed out to winning projects at 4:00.

You can find out more about the fair at: http://spicescience.uoregon.edu/uo-science-and-invention-fair

Jog-A-Thon is coming! – Please help your student to be ready for the Jog-A-Thon on Friday May 15th.  Students will need to come dressed in comfortable clothes and shoes.  Please support your child in collecting and returning pledges for the event.  The money raised goes toward PE, music and other specialists here at Ridgeline!

End-of-the-Year Sleepover?  Your child is bringing home a “pre-planning sheet” to see if we can organize a special event here at Ridgeline to celebrate our great class.  Please take a look at it and return it in your child’s Friday Folder.  Feel free to contact me with questions and ideas.
