Dana's Weekly Update 5-17-15

Dear Families,


Shakespeare Update: Only two weeks until our performance!!!  Please help support your child at home with practice of lines and cues.  Remind them to be loud and expressive. ( I have attached the script electronically again for those of you who may need to print out a copy for home use)


Our evening performance has been scheduled for May 29th from 6:00-7:00.   You should be getting a personal invitation from your child in their Friday Folder this week.  Please save the date and plan on attending our performance. 


Costumes needed for all boys:  Through generous donations, we have secured a variety of dresses that will work for our female characters.  Thanks to Elin, who met with students individually to help them find appropriate costumes!  She is also sewing red and blue shawls and tunics for our Capulet and Montague characters from home.  If you have a son in our performance, we are asking them to bring brown or black pants and a long sleeved white shirt to school for a costume base.  If you have a belt or sash that could be added for a sword belt, please send that along. 


Here are some other needs we have:


·      foam swords

·      Baked cookies/bars for sale at intermission for a theater fundraiser

·      Volunteers for assisting/supervising students in backdrop painting/prop development

·      Intermission food sales director (assist kids with sales)


Jog-A-Thon: – We had a fantastic time participating in the Jog-A-Thon today.  The kids ran and walked on the Rexius chip trail and enjoyed popsicles and the feeling of hard work done well!  If your child has not yet secured pledges and returned money for the event, please support him/her in this work.  We are hoping to raise an additional $8,000 this year to help play for PE, music, counseling and scholarships for next school year.  JAT packets are due June 1st.



End-of-the-Year Sleepover:  Due to a conflict with 8th grade graduation, we have had to move our planned sleepover date.  Our new date will be Tuesday, June 9thThis will mean that students will return to school on Tuesday evening at 6:00 for dinner and games.  We will spend the night at school and will then wrap up the year with our final day of school on Wednesday, June 10th.  We will enforce “lights out” by 10:30 and will expect all students to be up by 7:30 on Wednesday morning in order to be cleaned up and have classrooms back in order by 8:00.  Because of the date change I am asking all volunteers to reconfirm that they are able to help.  I tentatively have these folks on the books for the 9th:

·      Overnight chaperones:  Cat, Aaron, Darcy, Rhonda, Beth, Jimmy, Elin (one more male chaperone needed!)

·      Food Prep:  Tina, Mitra, Beth, Yaeko, Starr, Darcy, Sue

·      BBQ Dinner:  Sue, Laura, Darcy, Jimmy

·      Wednesday Breakfast:  Starr, Yaeko, Laura, Rhonda, Elin, Beth


Please watch for an updated permission slip in next week’s Friday Folder and return it with $3.00 toward our event. 


Drivers needed for Wednesday, May 20th:  We need space for 22 more students for our trip to Buford/Mt. Pisgah!  Please contact me if you are able to help chaperone our last environmental stewardship field trip of the year.  We will leave school at 11:30 and return by 3:00.
