Dana's Weekly Update 5-10-13

Dear Families,

The beautiful weather really has made me (and the students) notice the approach of summer!  We are staying focused on our academics and finishing up some projects with the end of the school year in mind.  Here are some of our weekly happenings:

Science Fair Projects Due:  Just one week is left to work on those Science Fair projects!  All projects are due to school on Friday, May 17th.  The exception to that is if you are entering your project in the University of Oregon Science and Invention Fair, which is taking place on Saturday, May 18th.  For students who are participating in that event, please keep your project at home so you can deliver it to the fair on Saturday at 10:00, then have your child bring it to school on Monday, in preparation for Tuesday’s Ridgeline Project Fair.

UO Science Fair:  Please stop by the University of Oregon Science and Invention Fair next Saturday, from 11:00-3:00 in Willamette Hall to see all the great experiments created by students from our area.  There are also fun, hands-on experiments and activities for your children to take part in while they are there.  I have sent home a flyer in your child’s Friday folder with more information.

Amazon Walk:  On Friday, May 17th we will walk the Amazon path to raise money for Ridgeline!  Students should now be busy gathering pledges for the walk.  Our classroom dress-up theme is “crazy glasses” so scrounge up some of those old Halloween costume glasses, decorate last year’s sunglasses with sparkles and eyelashes, or cut out some crazy shades from cardboard and duct tape to get ready for the walk!

Adventure Trip:  Our trip to Tugman State Park is only three and a half weeks away!  I will be sending out the itinerary and updated information next week.  I have received paperwork from most students, but check with your child to be sure they have turned in all the required information.  I will be talking with chaperones this week to plan a time to meet and go over information for the trip.  We have a lot of fun activities planned!

Thanks for Teacher Appreciation Week:  Thanks to everyone who donated treats, flowers and the countless hours of organizing that it takes to honor teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week.  I loved all the wonderful cards and notes I received!  It is always wonderful to feel appreciated!  J

Thanks, great families for all you do to support your kids in the classroom and at home!  I am constantly amazed at how far they have come this year, both academically and in their maturity and growth as kind, responsible and excited learners!
