Dear Families,

The year seems to be flying by! It amazes me that we are already making plans for our end-of-the-year trip!

Adventure Trip: I hope you all received the end-of-the-year Adventure Trip information. Although it seems far away, the end of the school year will be here before we know it! Please help us prepare for the trip by returning your child’s “intent to participate” form and $20 reservation fee. I have heard from several students that their parents are interested in coming along as chaperones. If that includes you, please check your schedule and return the permission slip to me as soon as possible. We have 5 yurts reserved but may be able to add another if we have confirmation that more parents would like to join us.

Monday Field Trip: We are heading to Brownsville on Monday, April 22nd to learn more about the Oregon Trail and Oregon settlers. Please be sure your child has returned their permission slip and $2 admission fee. It should be a fun trip!

OAKS testing: Students began OAKS reading testing this week, reading grade level passages online and answering questions to show their comprehension of the material. Next week we will begin the math portion of the test. Please be sure to send your kiddos off to school well-rested and with a good breakfast so they are ready to show their skills.

Science Fair: Your child has brought home some science project resources for our upcoming Ridgeline Project Fair (May 21st) and the U of O Science Fair (May 18th). As I mentioned last week, a U of O group called SPICE is visiting our classrooms each week for four weeks to help kids gather ideas, organize their projects and to collect and analyze their data. Each child will choose a science question to answer (see the papers from SPICE for more info), design a project and collect and analyze data. Science projects need to be completed at home, although we will help brainstorm, organize and answer questions here at school as well. Projects need to be completed and returned to school by May 17th. Students may choose if they would like to enter these completed projects in the U of O Science Fair. If your child is interested, please fill out and return the registration. There is a $20.00 fee for entering, but anyone who requests a scholarship for this entry fee will receive one. Mark the box on your entry form. If you need more project ideas and examples, visit
www.sciencebuddies.com or contact me.

Book Orders: Book Orders are coming home this week. Each person who places a book order will also get a free book. Please look over the order forms and place your order online or have your child return the order to class by Wed. May 1st. Please let me know which title your child would like to choose for their free book.

Upcoming Events:
· Volunteer Appreciation Tea with Baked Goods in the library on Wednesday morning, April 24th.
· Amazon Walk May 17th
· Ridgeline Project Fair May 21st

Thanks for sharing your amazing learners with us!
Dana and Jenny
