Dana's Weekly Update 10-21-14

posted Oct 21, 2014, 11:41 AM by Cynthia Friedman

Hi Families!  Here’s the scoop for this week:

Salmon in the Classroom:  This week we learned how to take care of our soon-to-be-delivered salmon eggs, learning to check pH, ammonia and determine temperature units.  We also learned a little about salmon anatomy and their life cycle, focusing this week on their egg stage.

Field trip to Alton Baker:  Please check your child’s Friday Folder for the permission slip to go on this fun (and most likely muddy!) trip on November 4th.  Thanks to Orion, Beth and Jennifer for offering to join us.

Volunteering in Room 8:  We are still looking for some parent helpers to offer enrichment activities for students who have proven to be “Self Managers” each week.  These students have completed high quality work at their level in a timely manner and have earned some extra time on Fridays to pursue other interests.  If you have time and talents to share, please let me know.  We would love to learn to knit, do origami, write a class newspaper, learn Spanish or sign language… or any other talent or interest you may have!  Sign up on our website or send me an email:

Ridgeline Block Party:  Thanks to everyone who donated items to our class basket.  Our class earned $395 for Ridgeline!!!  Way to go!  Thanks also to Dee for all her hard work in organizing our baskets!

Room 8’s Video Diary:  Niko, Emma, Shaylee and Allisyn are still hoping for a few more permission slips to be returned so that everyone in our class will be able to be a part of our classroom video diary.  Be sure to let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to offer your help with the project.
