Dana's Weekly Update 1-16-15

posted Jan 16, 2015, 10:39 AM by Cynthia Friedman

Dear Families,

Calendar Open House:  You should have received an invitation from your student for this event which is coming up Tuesday Jan 20th between 5:00-6:00. Stop by during that hour to admire and celebrate our students’ amazing calendar creations!  Enjoy some student made snacks and take a look at 29 different research calendars, each filled with 12 expository essays, 12 pieces of original artwork and 365 student-created math problems!  Please join us to congratulate our students on a job well done!

Tree Planting Field Trip:  You will find a permission slip in your child’s Friday folder for this upcoming field trip.  Please sign and return it by next Friday.  We will need parent drivers/chaperones for this trip, so please be sure that your information is updated at the office prior to the trip if you would like to attend.  (This must be done yearly, so be sure to talk with Kayla if you haven’t driven on a field trip THIS school year.)

Inclement Weather and Emergency Closures:  In the case of inclement weather that would make roads, school parking lots, driveways, or sidewalks unsafe for travel, Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School will be closed when the 4J school district is closed. If Ridgeline is scheduled to be in session, and no announcement is made, school is still in schedule as planned.

The 4J school district will make this announcement in many ways, which are (as of Dec 2013):

· 4J’s website, http://www.4j.lane.edu

· Twitter @4Jweather / text message alerts

· KRVM 91.9 FM, and other local TV and radio stations.

School closure and bus route decisions normally are made early in the morning and announced by 6:30 a.m. This is to ensure the most current weather conditions are assessed. Decisions are made district-wide and are the same for every 4J school.

Ridgeline Montessori will delay opening when 4J schools are scheduled to open on a delayed schedule.

Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School may be in session on a day when 4J happens to be already out of session. In this case, Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School will make the announcement on its web site,http://www.ridgeline.org.

Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School values safety above all else. Neither 4J nor Ridgeline can make a decision based on conditions nearby to individual families or staff.  Families and staff are encouraged to consider road and sidewalk conditions in their areas and make decisions based on safety. Ridgeline Montessori honors parents’ decisions about school attendance in these conditions. Staff members should contact the school and exercise leave options available to them when they believe they are unable to get to work safely.

Opportunity to talk about student safety:  As you may have heard on the news, there was recently a Eugene man arrested on a charge of stalking a 12-year old.  He is known to frequent the Tugman Park area.  Please see the attached letter about the incident and ways you can talk with your student about safety.

Ridgeline’s Middle School program:  If you weren’t able to come to the recent RCO meeting about the upcoming changes in our middle school program, take a minute to look over the attached document. It will share some of the important information and help you make decisions about your student’s placement for middle school.
