Emily's Weekly Update 9-5-14

In the Beginning…

BANG!  A balloon bursts, spilling sequins and glitter over the classroom rug and sprinkling a rapt audience of new first, second and third graders.  We are in the middle of the story of The Beginning of the Universe, a Montessori lesson that sets the stage for all our studies to follow.  Children take an imaginative journey from the big bang to the formation of our earth.  We are now expanding our studies by learning about the states of matter (solid, liquid, and gas) and their properties.  Some students are learning about the layers of the earth.  Others will soon have lessons on the solar system.  We are off and running!

Chaperones Needed

We will be traveling to Mt. Pisgah on Tuesday, Oct. 14th for a guided nature walk and picnic.  Chaperones are welcome!  We’ll leave at 9:00 and be back by 12:30.  Please let me know if you would like to join us.

Weavings

Taisia’s grandmother, Darlene, visited the class on Friday to teach children how to weave on a simple soda straw loom.  Many kiddos were so excited that they brought their looms home!  Please make sure to send them back on Monday.  A big thank you to Darlene for assembling the straw looms and getting kids started with this great handwork.

Dismissal Handshake Reminder

Please make sure that your child shakes the hand of either Carmen or I at dismissal before you leave.
