Dress Code Reminder

Parents have recently asked about the dress code.  Ridgeline encourages clothing without licensed characters.  We also ask that tank tops have a wide strap (no “spaghetti straps” or bra/camisole style tops).  Thank you for helping enforce the dress code at home before your child leaves each morning.

Homework Sent Home Friday

The ramps, marble runs and measurements from last month’s homework were amazing!  We invited guests from other classes to see all the amazing work.  The next round of homework is going out on Friday.  Contact me with any questions!

Tomato Mummy Success

Our tomatoes mummified in salt, baking soda and natron worked out great.  In less than a week, we were able to weigh the dried out tomatoes.  Many of the older students then calculated how much water weight the tomatoes had lost and wrote their own word problems about the data.

Life Sized Egyptians

Pairs of students are working on designing a sarcophagus for an ancient Egyptian.  We’ve learned about Egyptian society, beliefs and even how to write in hieroglyphics.  The most fun part of this project, for me, has been seeing all the ways that the children negotiate and compromise as they work together to plan their projects.  Next week we will paint the life sized sarcophaguses and start preparing for Ancient Egypt Day (date TBA).

Inclement Weather and Emergency Closures

In the case of inclement weather that would make roads, school parking lots, driveways, or sidewalks unsafe for travel, Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School will be closed when the 4J school district is closed. If Ridgeline is scheduled to be in session, and no announcement is made, school is still in schedule as planned.

The 4J school district will make this announcement in many ways, which are (as of Dec 2013):

· 4J’s website, http://www.4j.lane.edu

· Twitter @4Jweather / text message alerts

· KRVM 91.9 FM, and other local TV and radio stations.

School closure and bus route decisions normally are made early in the morning and announced by 6:30 a.m. This is to ensure the most current weather conditions are assessed. Decisions are made district-wide and are the same for every 4J school.

Ridgeline Montessori will delay opening when 4J schools are scheduled to open on a delayed schedule.

Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School may be in session on a day when 4J happens to be already out of session. In this case, Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School will make the announcement on its web site,http://www.ridgeline.org.

Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School values safety above all else. Neither 4J nor Ridgeline can make a decision based on conditions nearby to individual families or staff.  Families and staff are encouraged to consider road and sidewalk conditions in their areas and make decisions based on safety. Ridgeline Montessori honors parents’ decisions about school attendance in these conditions. Staff members should contact the school and exercise leave options available to them when they believe they are unable to get to work safely.
