You are invited to our class meeting/picnic on Wednesday, September 24 from 6:00 to 7:00. Bring your own picnic fare and a blanket, and we’ll eat in the outdoor space behind the classroom. You can check out the classroom, get a sneak preview of homework, and sign up for volunteer tasks. Most importantly, you’ll get to connect with other Ridgeline families. See you there!
PE at Ridgeline
Our class has PE on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please make sure that your child has PE-ready shoes on for those days. If your child has an injury or sprain and can’t participate in PE, please let us know! Otherwise, our expectation is that everyone joins in and benefits from the exercise.
Music Class Begins
The musically named Amber Bell is our new music teacher. Half the class had their first lesson on Thursday; the rest will have their first lesson next week. Amber has taught first, second, and third grade classes before and plays many instruments. We’re happy to have her!
Silent reading is not so silent anymore – but that’s OK! Many of our students are paired with a reading buddy. Older students help younger students read and check off the books they’ve read. Younger students then listen to their partner model fluent reading from their own books.
Advanced readers (most second and third graders) are expected to read from a chapter book that is at their level. This can be fiction or nonfiction, and kids can choose from our classroom library or bring a book from home.
Our wonderful intern Yang is starting Chinese lessons with many of our students. They will be learning to read and write their names in Chinese and how to say hello, goodbye, thank you and no thank you.
