Travel back in time with us to the heyday of ancient Egyptian culture. We are reading about Egypt, learning hieroglyphics, and getting ready to do some nonfiction writing projects. Our studies will culminate in an Egypt Day, and the projects will be on display at the project fair in April. Thanks to the families who have already started sharing books and resources about Egypt!
Our class will exchange Valentines next Tuesday, February 14. If your child chooses to bring Valentines, please make sure that there are enough for everyone in our class of 29. Many children enjoy writing their classmates' names on their cards. A list of names was sent home last Friday. No candy with the Valentines, please; however, “treats” like pencils, stickers or tattoos are fine.
Next Friday Ridgeline welcomes the Alaska Husky Spirit team for a whole-school assembly. Dog musher and sled captain Lorraine Temple will bring two of her sled dogs and teach the kids about dogsledding and Alaska.
Oregon Battle of the Books preparations continue, and the third grade kids are zipping through their reading list. It's great to see so many motivated readers! Alyson and parent volunteer Rob Foltz keep OBOB club meetings fun for kids whatever their reading level. The OBOB club is open for 3rd graders and meets Friday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:00.
