Jasper's Update 2-28-2020

Dear Room 10 Parents,

Classroom Happenings - We are full swing learning about geometry and graphing. The fifth and sixth-grade students have been drawing using graphing. Fifth graders are graphic in the positive quadrant and sixth graders are graphing in all four quadrants. Here are some examples of drawings that students are doing:

Our fourth-grade students are learning their shapes and finding them around our classroom. These students found scalene and isosceles right triangles all over.

Last week students tested Newton’s third law of motion and made “Hero Engines”. These engines were made with aluminum cans. They then tested their hypothesizes about the most effective way to spin the can using hole size and number of holes.

Students are also working hard on their Egypt research projects. They are finishing up their information gathering and moving on to developing their ideas into presentable information.

Stripes & Polka Dots on Monday - We will be celebrating "Read Across America" focusing on books students can see themselves reflected in, as well as books that allow readers to see a world or a character that might be different than them. On March 2nd, Ridgeline will be wearing stripes and polka dots to kick off this day of literacy, and Principal Michelle will visit some classrooms to read short stories.

Thanks,

Jasper Weinrib
