I recently took the totem pole painting process in a direction that was inconsistent with the traditional colors used on Northwest Native American totem poles. The colors no longer honored the tradition or original vision. After consulting with Brenda Brainard and Vic Hansen, I decided that it was necessary to sand off some of the paint colors. Before reaching out to student and parent volunteers to help, I want to spend some time trying different types of sandpaper and tools and to make sure that all of the proper safety gear is available to protect our lungs, eyes, and ears. I do so appreciate all of the support and work done so far, and I want to ensure you that certain detail work will remain painted as it is (eyes and sockets, eyebrows, nostrils, lips, beaver tail, birds wings, baby bear, and raven’s beak).
Thank you all for your support!
